Tidying round the house last night, I came across a file with a small collection of autographs I collected over the years. There's not that many in it - U2, Dermot Morgan (aka Fr. Ted), Liverpool Soccer team of 1993, plus a few others.
I then remembered I had a few signed books as well, so I went a-searching through my (now substantial) book collection.... quite a few there that are signed, probably most notibly is Pele's autobiography signed my Pele himself. I remember getting this autograph - he was doing a signing in Dublin and managed to get into the first 200 people getting to meet him. There was an international rugby match at 2pm that day, and eventually met him at 1.15pm (after queueing from 7am). He shook my hand, signed my book, and apologised for keeping me waiting. He noted that I was probably rushing to see the rugby, as I looked like a rugby player. I don't know whether that was good or bad, but I do have a beer gut, and I don't know if he was politely telling me I am a fatso!! lol
Strange thing is, other than book signings, I have met a few "celebs" over the last few years and have come less inclined to ask for their autographs than I would have been when I was in my teens.... dunno why.... probably becuase I tend to meet them in restaurants and the likes rather than on the streets (wouldn't have frequented these places when I was a teen!) and realise they don't want to be disturbed.
Anyone have any autographs? Anyone any stories about getting them?
