Autographs

Awesome. The sequence of him chugging around third, bad knees and all, of Francisco Cabrera's pinch single, with David Justice and Otis Nixon signaling him to get down to beat the throw against the Pirates will be etched into my mind forever.
Yeah, I guess I've got a small autograph collection. Mostly includes former Toronto Blue Jays (John Olerud, Roberto Alomar, Cecil Fielder, ...), hockey players (Johnny Bower, Marcel Dionne, Bobby Hull, ..), and an autographed copy of Iron Maiden's Fear of The Dark by that band lineup. That's all I can think of now.
about all the busch drivers from 96-02. some cup drivers from the same years. but most importantly dale earnhardt and all the people at rcr.
Yes. I had a book of football players from the WAFL (state level). One was from Steve Malaxos, Captain of the Claremont football club.
I was only chasing Swan Districts autographs and only asked for his because he had blood running down his face (this was pre-blood rule) and when he signed it some rubbed off onto the page. Disgusting yes, but memorable for a 12yo kid!
Had the Home and Away star who played Marilyn (married to Mr Fisher) sign a T-shirt of mine after she visited our skate rink for our Telethon all night skate. I ended up skating around backwards holding her hands and going "too fast" for her liking the whole time she was there so she didn't fall and make a goose of herself!!
I recently purchased a Glenn Archer poster with his signature on it, just because I love the player. One day I hope to have him sign something for me directly
And I have the same shop trying to hunt down ANYTHING with Cliff Burton's signature on it too! I think they are getting sick of me asking for progress reports but hey, they said with enough time they'll find something someone will part with so thats their job!
I never got the whole autograph thing. I've never asked anyone for their autograph*. I simply just don't get it...why on Earth do you want someone's writing on a paper? It's stupid. I've even been asked for my autograph a few times (and I gave it, reluctantly), but for the life of me, I can't imagine what anyone would want an autograph for.
*I asked Mike Tobias to sign the bass he made for me...but I look at that as more of an "artist signs his work" thing...not an "autograph".

My mother during the 60/70's collected a heap such as rolling stones, beatles, fleetwood mac, pink floyd etc. She then decided to give the book away to someone. ARGGGH.
I believe that when you touch something your energy is left behind. To me, having an autograph of someone I admire is the closest I will get to having that same person in my life, since that is unrealistic...and probably illegal.
I best go release Harold Holt, Elvis and the alien from Roswell 
I got the control plate for my Yamaha TRB-4 autographed by Wayne Shorter, John Patittucci, and Brian Blade. I wanted to get Danilio Perez as well, but he scuttled off before the rest of the band came out.
I have Muhammad Ali's autograph. It was sent on a piece of paper to my grans house, by accident. It wasn't addressed to her, but she couldn't find out who it was meant to be for. The postman told her to keep it. She gave it to me. Winner.
I got a small collection of autographed crap:
-Disturbed's original lineup, on The Sickness (the first -band/cd I ever really liked)
-Trot Nixon signed baseball bat (my boy!)
-Bronson Arroyo signed picture of the A Rod "Karate Chop"
-Godsmack signed promo pick (nothing to brag about, my science teacher knows their manager lol
-Some Redsox signed this picture for me when I was born, my parents knew him or something. Marty/Monty something lol
-And I've met Therowdown twice and have two cds and a promo pick signed by them (they are probably the coolest guys i've ever met, definitly down to earth)

I met Stu Hamm in San Francisco. Long story, but it was really cool. Girlfriend's father took me to a dinner/circus type thing and wanted to get a ringside seat, but we got there too late, and were seated by the bandstand instead. On our way in, I noticed a gold Fender Urge and knew right away that it was Stu's, and the pianist was directly behind me. I politely asked him if Stu Hamm was playing bass, he said yes and we started talking about how Stu was a big influence on my playing and at intermission he told Stu, who came out after the show to my table to chat a bit, brought me a signed 8x10 and a pick. That's still on my wall to this day.
I've got a bunch of signatures from Jason Newsted from the three times we've crossed paths. I ran into Nino at one of them, but I ended up working for his record label for free, but in exchange I got tshirts, backstage passes and free CD's, as well as notes, postcards, etc.
Brad Corrigan of Dispatch surprised me with a huge package. I wrote him an email offering to help out with his mission work in Chile in any way I could. He mailed me a huge package with his current demo CD, signed drumstick, postcard and photo.
I've worked crew for many bands and have plenty of memorobilia, but have gotten out of the habit of asking for signatures. I've come to realize that these people are just like the rest of us... musicians. I've been in their shoes, and they've been in mine. It's a pleasure to meet them, but I'd rather have memories than signatures.
