Avalon U5 Signal Path Questions

Technically setting #6 cuts lows, and thus "boosts mids" when you turn the volume up... of course it also boosts highs by the same amount, up to 10 KHz... Maybe Gordon likes an extra treble-y tone? Or maybe he uses the amp's semi-parametric EQ to cut the highs that he is boosting with the Enhance knob and the Avalon?

On the one hand, it's plain foolishness from every practical angle. OTOH, it's harmless, and we're all entitled to make sounds in whatever way we want, with whatever gear we want and can afford.

Thanks, all. I know Gordon uses tone 4, which looks pretty flat, with a dip in the upper mids at boost level 5. Again, I'm not sure why this seems to work, but his tone is, to my ears, totally unique and really spectacular (and not at all trebly). And of course, he has a LOT more going on than just this.

When i crank my Enhance, I am able to emulate something that Gordon and Phil both have, with is a real percussive bounce. But of course, without the mids, it sounds only kind of percussive.

I've done this crazy. From my pedal board to a rack unit to another unit to the pedal board to a switcher then to two amps. It always sounds like poo live. Because it's so specific you don't know how to adjust it for different rooms or outside. It take years to get the gain stages right. It's so patch cord dependent that trouble shooting a minute before the drummer hits the one is no fun.

Then one day you plug a good bass straight into a good amp. You hear all the tones you obscured trying to find that one. Now you can roll into a gig and be ready in five from door to tuned. Kinda like a pro, :) all about the music.

I have a question regarding to topic...which spot is the best to put Avalon U5.

A. bass--Lehle Basswitch DI (with effects)--Avalon U5-amp return ....I can record 1 from Avalon with all effects
B. bass-Avalon U5--Lehle Basswitch DI (with effects)--amp return ....I can record 1 from Avalon with NO effects and take second source from Lehle with effects

There is a difference putting instrument to Avalon first I feel better playing but not much bottom.

Too many options is not good. I'm also going to buy Alembic F2b near future..;\

Advices much welcome..
Thank You
