Hello! My name is Diego Martinez, and I have spent the past few weeks looking for avant-garde music written by non-white men to play on my senior recital. I have managed to find a good amount of music by East Asian & Black composers to play on my recital (I also found a few great pieces by white women), but have had a harder time finding works by Latin American, South Asian or Middle Eastern composers. I am wondering if anyone could help me with this research? I am a classical musician by training, but any style of avant-garde music is welcome. If these works are written by LA, SA, or ME women or non-binary composers, even better. I know composers such as Júlian Carrillo, Alberto Ginastera, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Silvestre Revueltas are notable post-tonal Latin American composers, though I am unsure how to find whether or not they have good pieces for bass (or if there are better options out there). As far as South Asian or Middle Eastern composers, however, I seem to be at a complete loss.
Just to gauge what kind of music I am looking for, here is a list of works I am heavily considering for this program:

Du Yun - Zigzaggg

Raphaèle Biston - Prèsence

8 min
