Avatar cabs

The sound great till they rattle themselves apart due to cheap construction (box joints instead of finger joints) also Dave and his crew are really not too good at the whole customer service thing. IIRC their speaker wiring diagrams also have the incorrect impedances on the more complex ones last I checked.
Never an issue with any of the cabs I owned. And they took a beating. I also spoke to Dave on the phone several times. Very pleasant and helpful.

I owned a 112 a while back and found it to be a very loose, muddy, mess. I tried it with half a dozen heads and couldn't make it work for me with any of them.

It completely lacked clarity to me. Some here have said it "kind of sounds like a 15". I guess that's a reference to how much low end is in its sound. I recently got a Mesa Subway 115. There's nothing loose or muddy about it at all, even though it has tons of low end on tap.

Bass cabs get their characteristic tone through TUNING. They do NKT get their characteristic tone from driver size. There's no "15 sound" or "12 sound". I can build you a super bright 15 cab or a low end heavy muddy 12 cab (like Avatar did). ;)

There are much better options out there. I'm biased. Save up and grab a Subway 112 if you're set on a 12. You'll be grinning every time you fire up your rig.

Finger joints are completely unnecessary, and a waste of effort, unless you want to build a Fender repro cabinet out of pine (and... why?). Butt joints and cleats are standard practice.

Sure and maybe you can donate the extra 380 bucks you gotta pay for the Mesa. The rest of your rant is nonsense. The Avatar 112 isn't muddy at all. Maybe your technique is bad.

There was no "nonsense" in my post.

My tone is generally what most would consider "bright". Not modern. Certainly colored with a vintage tone. But not too beefy or muddy. (As a guy who also occasionally runs sound, I know what makes a sound guy's job easy, and what doesn't.) I've owned dozens of cabs. None of the rest were muddy. (The Ampeg 610 HLF leans that way but an HPF imn front of it really makes that cab shine.)

My technique is all over the place, from finger style, to thumb, to tapping, to chords, to pick, and all points in between. No other cab ever had a problem allowing that to shine through.

Also, there is no such thing as "15 inch tone" or "12 inch tone" or "10 inch tone".

I've owned 410 cabs that were beefy and 15 cabs that were bright. It's all about tuning. Period.

Who are you to say my technique is the problem? You don't know me and have never heard me play? I've only been doing it for money for THIRTY FIVE YEARS. Get over yourself.

Gp find some peace and love. Maybe a walk in the woods. Pet a puppy. Something. If my negative review of your favorite cab sets you off, you need less stress in your life. ;)

I get the Mesa fanboyism but your "muddy" observation is nonsense. Read the rest of the reviews. Your intention was clear, to bash Avatar and to make yourself sound like some enlightened bass God who has better ears than the rest of us. Get over yourself. Some people want the bass to sound like a bass. I've made my Avatar sound great with 3 different heads. Of course I've played for more years than you but whatever. I think you need some Q tips or perhaps hearing aids with extra treble.

Man, what is your deal? I wasn't "bashing" anything. I simply said it was too muddy FOR ME.

My ears are fine. For crap sake I also run sound. I tend to get positive feedback on both FOH sound AND my bass tone.

I never said that anybody who uses an Avatar cab is dumb. So why are you taking it that way? We all share different opinions about EVERYTHING around here.

I've never played a Rickenbacker bass that felt good to me. But Geddy and countless others have made it work. Does that make me an arrogant "god" too?

Dude, you're being weird. Nobody pulled your string by giving a negative opinion of a piece of gear. It happens hundreds of times a day around here. There are people here who hate P basses, hate flats, hate vintage SVTs, hate jazz and hate rock. Do they displease his highness too?

I don't think I am the bass universe. People can disagree with me and I'm fine with that. I don't care that you and others love that cab. I'm happy for you. Why are you pissed that I didn't love it?

And that's really the point here. Why are you mad? It makes no sense. All I did was share MY EXPERIENCE with an inanimate object. And the level of emotion that sparked in you is ridiculous.

Are you going through something terrible right now? If so, start a thread about it in Off Topic and maybe we can be your support group or something. But whatever that is is a separate issue and no excuse for going off on me simply because we disagree on the usefulness/performance of a freaking bass cab.

Guy? OP? @jeff7bass is, clearly, the only person in this thread qualified enough to offer his opinion on 112 cabs. Whatever he says you can take to the bank. I apologize for giving my opinion here. I should have yielded to his superiority long ago. In fact, now that I think about it, he's clearly shown that the rest of us shouldn't even bother offering our opinions on anything, really. So I'll be going over to the Forum Rules and Usage section and suggesting to the fine folks that run this place that we start an "Ask Jeff" forum. I'm guessing it would pretty much take over TalkBass.

Jeff, I'm just having a little fun here. Relax. Enjoy your cab.

I'll be going now.

I'm more interested in nice juicy, but tight, lows and a bit of grind in the low-mids. Any input on the lower end of the SB126 is appreciated. And which speaker should I go with? 8ohm delta Lf or the 4ohm Deltalite 2 2512 neo?
This will do that. I would go with the 8 ohm if you don't need to squeeze the extra watts out of the cabinet. It's a better driver. "LF" means something.
