Avatar Owner's Club - part 3

My Avatar B112 Kappa cube and B210 Delta (all pre Avatar OEM speakers) stack was my very first gig-worthy bass rig. It was actually the time of my heaviest gigging, and I used and abused that pair from 2007 to 2015 when it finally succumbed to my stupid abuse over that entire time frame (learned a lot of hard lessons from their failure).

Since then, other cabs have come and gone, but I still have that original pair - fully repaired of course. They get absolutely no use, but I don't think I'll ever get rid of them just because of the sentimental value that they hold for me.

I owe a lot to those original Avatars, and I'm grateful to Dave that they were making such inexpensive and well constructed cabinets at that time in my musical career. Not that they still aren't, but the bass gear world was different then. I don't think there was really anything else like them in their class.

Been heavily gigging my "two" Avatar 210 Neo cabinets for a little over 9 years.

These two Avatars are the only cabinets I've used or owned for the last 8 years.

Just curious as to what length of time everyone has been working with their Avatar cabs.....

I've had weekly gigs or rehearsals with my B210 neo and SB112 neo cabs (powered with a GK MB50) for going on two years. Never been happier with my sound. I constantly get compliments from sound guys, audience, other musicians.

So my SB123 showed up today and I did a quick speaker swap in my SB126 and then I was ready to go!! Much lighter than the original speaker. Lol. The Faital speakers have a rear sound and I like the way the crossovers in each cabinet work together sonicly. The 126 crosses over at 2500hz while the 123 jumps to the mid driver at 800 and then to the tweeter at 2500 I believe. Gotta check. The play between the mid drivers and their different crossover points made the whole mid range very punchy and present. Gonna be gigging then pretty good over the next two weeks so I'm gonna make sure and put them through the paces! Still playin with how I want to stack the cabs. Lol

Have you had a chance to A/B the 123 cabinet as a stand-alone and compared it to your 126 as a stand alone?

Just wondering if you might prefer one cabinet over the other and how much of a difference the horn made in the 123.

I recently aquired an Avatar B212, really like it and it's super light (coming from the Ampeg days). I really don't know a lot about the history can someone get me up to speed on this company?

Avatar cabinets are built in my town Coeur D'Alene , North Idaho. I have played through all of the cabinets. There are some youtube clips floating around of me demonstrating them. They are all really nice sounding, and are well built. You can get all kinds of different colors and finishes and grills, different speakers etc. And they are really affordable. The Avatars I ended up choosing for myself are two B112 regular ( green w gold grille and white piping, beautiul) and one B115 neo, if I want to move some extra air. I have owned a lot of different speakers in my 40 years of playing , no need to keep looking at other cabs, I'm totally happy. Dave, the owner is a great guy and he totally cares about customer service and you can always get him on the phone if you need help with anything.

Yes I have. It not a lot of time to compare. Just got the 123 on Monday I believe. I did take it this weekend for about four hours of band practice and an hour and half gig last night. I am very happy with the sound!! The 123 has the Faital 12 while my 126 originally had the 500 watt 4ohm ceramic. I swapped another faital 12 into the 126 and I can tell you there's a pretty good difference in the tone and weight of the drivers.

The 123 this weekend was great. Used it as a stand alone for my regular red dirt country gig. The cab had a great punch low end and the 6 and horn really came through on some of my picked parts and our more rockin tunes. Going to be using both cabs this weekend in Dallas at Texas Mardi Gras!

Ooooooo good question!! I'd prolly go with the 123! It has the horn but I can also use the pad to turn the horn all the way down and I essentially have a 126, with a lip different crossover points. Both are great cabs though! I plan on playing s number of local jams with the 123 in the next week so I'll be able to report back a bit more confidently later. Lol
I also love the combo of the two cabs for this rig. I think two of the 123's would be too zingy with two horns but the mid drivers are quite punchy

Let us know what you think of the 123 as a stand alone on the job.
The single 123 route is what I'm thinking of trying for a rehearsal/small job cabinet.
I'll still keep my two Avatar 210 Neo cabinets cause they do such a great job in a live, LOUD, band.

Hope someone will do a A/B comparison with a 123 and a 112 type fearful/fearless cabinet.
I'd find that interesting.

I've been real happy with it. Good tone and projection in all the rooms I've used it in so far. Quite happy indeed

I've been delaying posting here until I felt that I put the cabs through the proper paces. I'm fortunate enough to live in a very musical household. Great home studio and rehearsal space. About 3 rehearsals per week between myself and the roommate's bands. Well, it seems like the other bass players that travel through here no longer bring their rigs. These dueling 2x10's with Delta neos are light, tight, punchy and loud. They've seen quite the variety. From USA passive Fender P and J, EMG active equipped basses, a Warwick Corvette, and the pictured Kiesel multiscale... it's handled them all with flying colors. I'm an Avatar convert for sure.

Been gigging two Avatar 210 Neo's as a vertical 410 for 9+ years....absolutely LOVE these cabinets.

Avatar has proven to me you don't have to spend a zillion dollars on high-dollar cabinets to get a GREAT sound.
