Avatar Owner's Club - part 3

right on, I've got cats, too...I'm not too concerned about the upcharge on the line-x, and a few pounds don't mean anything one way or the other...I'm not afraid of ceramic magnets :D I'm just curious which pairing would be better for me in a hard rock covers band...I usually don't go much lower than drop-D, but I play some type o negative songs on a detuned bass (B standard), but if I need to play loud, I've also got this enormous ampeg pr410hlf that delivers the low end, no concern there...just needing something more manageable than that that can keep up with a couple guitars and a loud drummer...I'm pretty sure, either will work...I'm using an eden wt-800c, so I have the option to use 8 or 4 ohm cabs whether I bridge or go stereo

The 12 is a very tight, full range sounding speaker (and it's 5 pounds lighter than the 210) but you can't go wrong with 2 x 210. They are really good sounding cabs.

As a side note I would suggest spending the extra $ for Line-x covering if you can swing it. I got it for the new 112 and it's totally worth it.

so, those are line-x covered cabs - with a wheat grille and white piping? looks classy..

I have neos in mine but then I'm an old guy with a creaky back from decades of schleping heavy amps and cabs so pounds count here ;). Even the ceramic Avatar boxes aren't that heavy though :thumbsup:.

I only play four string with just a moderately loud drummer but have never had the GK MB500 gain past 9:00 with the master at 3:00. Once I cranked it up comparing them with my old school 2x15 JBL K140 cab. The Avatars got loud and held up great. I'm sure they will be fine in your drop/detuned hard rock setting.

The top cab is line-x, the bottom is tolex. It's almost impossible to see the difference until you're up close. Line-x is awesome stuff!

I like the wheat with white piping color scheme. I think it looks pretty classy too. I'd always envisioned having black cloth with white piping but the used 210 had the wheat and I dug it right away. Kind of a vintage look. Avatar has so many color choices. 17 coverings, 8 grill colors, 5 pipings. Really cool to be able to create any look you want.

I've decided to retire my aged, yet trusty, ceramic 2x10 (8 ohm) to the practice space...

I've been talking with Dave and I think I'm going to replace it with a pair of 2x10 Neos! I'm going inexpensive with this purchase, since I'm indifferent to the rat fur/metal vs Tolex/cloth look, but will be glad to have the Eminence Neos in them to drop a few pounds for the load in/load out! :D

I'm going to place the order early next week and should have them for the middle of my busy Sept! It will be interesting to hear/feel the different between a single 2x10 vs a vertical pair!!


With that in mind, this will be the first time I've ever run stacked cabs and I have a question. Is it better/preferred to daisy chain the cabs out of one of the speakon's on the back of the head or to run each cab individually from the 2 speak-ons, or does it matter? ...does that question make sense? For reference, I'm using a GK MB500 Fusion as the head.

It makes no difference if you daisy chain the cabs or run them off individual amp speaker outs. Two 8 ohm cabs are a 4 ohm load either way. This of course is only true for parallel wired cabs, which most are, including Avatar.

BTW, you're gonna love the Eminence Neos for both tone AND weight :thumbsup:

Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication during the email exchange which has forced me to go a different route. It sucks, but it is what it is! I still dig my 2x10 and will continue to enjoy using it at the rehearsal space.

I have a Neo 212. Does anyone have any tips for fixing grate-related buzz other than making sure the screws are tight? I need to take it off this weekend anyway - I'm not sure when or how this happened but one of the speakers has been touching the grate (you can see the shape of it on the outside of the speaker!) and I need to repair a small tear in the surround. I'm planning to try to bend the grate out a bit so this doesn't happen again. Haven't spent a ton of time tracking down the buzz, but I'm wondering if it might be where the edge of the grate touches the front lip of the cabinet.

The SB210 shelf port is shorter but wider than the B210. Since the boxes are the same size with the same drivers I suspect the cabinets are tuned the same. I think the SB speakers are slightly offset simply to allow room for the side port placement. I don't think it affects the sound. Of course this is just a logical assumption on my part. You should place a quick call to Avatar. They can give you the definitive answer :)

Actually I'm curious about it too. I've been considering swapping out my B210 for a SB210 simply for the aesthetics of having the port location match my SB112.

For sure give Avatar a call and ask their advice. I've talked to Dave (owner), Trevor and Eric (Dave's son) and they are all very helpful.

Hey guys. Just ordered my first Avatar cabinet last week. Went with the SB126 and am very excited to start playing through it!! If I dig the cabinet as much as I think I'm going to, my plan is to buy a second sb126 to use in larger gigs.

Hey guys I am thinking of buy 2 SB210 or B210 cabs to stack them vertically, Now for my questions for guys that have them or have played with them.
1. Would the b210's stacked be better because the speakers are all in a straight line?
2. I play alot of drop tuning but would love to save weight as well if so do the Deltalite speakers work good for drop tunings?
3. I just got a Quilter BB800 that will be powering these cabs does that sound like enough power or do these cabs suck power like some other companies do?

Thank you for any help or ideas. What I play with now for reference is Harke HL1000 with a Ampeg 8x10E

So this guy showed up today!!
SB126!! So far sounds amazing. Gonna have a chance to play out this Sunday.

Got to play at a local jam night last night and couldn't be more thrilled with the sound I got from my SB126. Played through my Aggy Tone Hammer and TLC into my B2R. Kept all the EQ settings on the amp level with a lil bump On the bass knob. Midrange driver was turned to about one o'clock.

Loved the deep punchyness of the cab and slapping sounded great but not to zingy as I found it with a tweeter. Already got plans to convert this one to 8ohm and buy a second cab!

Hey bud. It's the Delta 12LF (500w 4ohm) and the 2.5k crossover.

Played a patio gig last night at out On The Border with a local guitarist. Him and an acoustic with a looper pedal. All I used was my Aguilar TLC compressor. This lil cab was sounded great and sat right into the mix. Tight and punchy with nice strong lows.

Very pleased with this cab. Plan on building my self a sweet lil giggin' rig out of a couple of these cabs.
