but to me, Ampegs get farty & muddy the louder they get. That's just my humble opinion.

I'm with the Ox on the Ampeg thing...I find that a cabinet with efficient ports sounds much better than a sealed unit, and I prefer JBL, obviously.

Why would you buy something you've never used in favour of something you tried and loved? To please your drummer or fit in with a bunch of internet opinions? I don't mean to sound harsh but if you know what you like just go get it!

I just want to get the best possible cab to accent the way I play, and the style of band we are.

Avatar isn't the "best", its the "best" for the price. Nobody here will place Avatar against Aguilar, Epiphani, Bergantine, Eden, etc. etc.. Those cabs cost more, and are (arguably) much better sounding. But for the price, Avatar is plenty fine for many people.

If you truy have the funds to buy an Ampeg 810, then you'd be silly not to just get the Bergantino 610. Research it here, it sounds like the Ampeg 810, lighter, smaller, and higher quality. Best resale value of the bunch.

I think its safe to say that ANYONE who wants an Ampeg 810 is better off with the Berg 610 . . . .

I was guna get the GS 410 + AG500 and still might, but what do you guys think?

not a single band you listed should be classed as hardcore . . . . . . . . . .


If you however want that dirty rock sound an SVT and an 810 is the way to do it (altho im hearing the berg 610 sounds practically the same as the ampeg 810) . . .

I play music similar to AILD/IDT/HTD/Unearth, etc.

Get a sansamp rbi, a gk 1001rb-II, and an ampeg 6x10. Sounds great.

Ok here's my dillema. Right now I play a Hartke 3500 w/ a hartke 4x10. And have a Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass(love it)My guitarist plays a Mesa 4x12, also with a fender Aerodyne(not that that matters) but what does matter is that I can't hear my self. Thus I need a new amp. I would like the Fridge sized ampeg 8x10 with the SVT 4 amp. (basically my dream amp) But our drummer is trying to convince me to go avatar. I called Avatar to talk to them about it and decided on.... The SVT 4 amp...

It comes down to either the 8x10 Ampeg or 2 4x10 Kappa Pros. I have never played through an avatar but have never heard a bad review. I have played through the Ampeg stack and loved it. Can anyone give me insight on the difference between the two amps.


I tend to play alot of highs and lows at the same time I.E. 4 diferent octaves at the same time, Chording with tapping, and guitar parts on the bass. Basically I need something that will be able to give a wide range of sound while being heavy and punchy as hell. Deep lows, clear highs, and still able to knock you back from 20 feet away.

I currently have about $1,500 to work with but am willing to spend up to $900 more.

the ampeg is good and the correct one.

Hmm, that's where I am from. What band do you play with?? I have seen most of the bands around here, and have seen just about every style of playing. What makes your style unique to this area??

BTW, I have an SVT 4 Pro and a SVT 410 HLF cabinet. I haven't tried the Avatar stuff yet, but have been thinking about checking them out.

If you're willing to spend the money, move it, and already know for sure that it's your dream cab, I'd say buy the Ampeg 8x10. Not too many people will say it's the best cab ever, but if you want it and know what it sounds like, go for it man.

I'd personally attempt to try the higher end cabs that have been mentioned (Bergantino and Schroeder, I bet they both have decent return policies). Both cabs might not be your cup.

If the ampeg's what you want, go for it man.

Our band is Called Sleeping in Gethsemane. Our first show as a full band is Halloween at Billiards(meaning I need the cab soon). The band is Brandon Laplante on guitar(Ashton ink, The Black Letter, Caste of Ire), Shane Heilman on drums(Eyes Wide Daedals), and myself Brandon Schiwal on bass(Rest Assured, JPMTN)
Brandon also works at Marguerittes.

We don't limit the style we play in at all, and most of our songs are complex enough that we wrote them in movements. In one song we start with a jazz drum beat while I am doing a flamenco style pic pattern on bass and Brandon is playing something out of a speak easy. Then I move to a walk, while Brandon plays something reminicent of Godspeed you black emporer(sp) and the drums change into a more standard beat. Then we switch to tom rolls and a standard bass line. Then shane plays 6/8 on the hat while also playing 4/4 on the snares, while I do more strumming then Go into a hardcore march. Then change all together into a dark, scary, melodic part. Then end with Me doing tapping on the bass and Brandon doing harmonics w/ a glass slide.

that is poorly worded and spelled because I have to work in 5 min at the GNRB.

By saying no one around here has heard anything like it I was meaning mostly that no bands in the "scene" have done anything as interesting as what we are.(and that is not comming from us)

By style I meant more along the lines of your style of playing, not so much the entire band.

Sounds like you have something sort of interesting going on there. I am assuming that you are an all original band, by your above post.

Good choice on going with the Ampeg cab, since you know that that is the sound that you are after in the first place. My 410 has served me very well over the years, as has my SVT4Pro head. But, for me, it is time for something different, so I am busy amp shopping now.

Maybe run into ya sometime in the future.

Ampeg...I know very little about Avatar. But I just got done reading the Ampeg Story Behind the Sound book. Ampeg is amazing you can dial in almost anything you want. Being i know litte about Avatar , Ampeg has gotten its name out and has a wonderful reputation. You can not beat AMPEG!!!
