Lost 1/8in to a pair of back surgeries but I'll round up to 6ft1. So right about average. Seems right. I know this doesn't take gender into account, but if there is enough data to show bassists deviate from the norm that'd be fascinating. Cool poll.

We're definitely deviants, that's a given! I've personally never conformed to the norm my entire life.

5'-8" 60 trips around the sun. Probably won't get any taller. My main issue with playing is having small hands and short fingers. My vertical height, has never been a detriment.
5'8" is a safe height, we only have to duck if we climb inside one of those kids tube maze things. These giants on earth have to watch out from bumping their heads into stuff all the time.

I am still 5'9", the average height of a US male. A case where "average" is kinda cool. So many physical spaces are designed with you in mind. (I too stack my 2x10s vertically...never have to stoop down or reach up.)

Definition of bass player

: a performer on a bass musical instrument (such as the double bass)allows the pianist, the bass player, and the drummer to get in a few licks— New Yorker
The "Urban Dictionary" definition is funnier, but TB is a clean forum so that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Lost an inch since I started playing, but still 6'2". It will be interesting to see how this falls relative to published statistics on average humans. You might think that people who find bass natural would be people with long fingers and long arms, which correlates to height. But you might also find that the drive to bassitude is more mental and emotional than physical.

Data is piling up quick, almost 100 voters in a couple hours, the US Census had less enthusiasm!

i started adulthood at 6' even, but the state of ohio describes me at 5'11" so that's how i voted. i have no doubts that i've shrunk...i noticed that everything in the house was starting to get taller a decade ago...

I think bass players come in all types of sized and shapes. I think being taller might help making the bass easier to play, with long arms and big hands.

A couple of taller bassists you might recognize:
Pino Palladino 6'-8"
Kurt Novoselic 6'-7"
Tim Commerford 6'-4"
Chris Squire 6'-4"
Duff McKagan 6'-3"
Marcus Miller 6'-2"

Here are some of the shorter bass players:
Flea 5'-6"
John Paul Jones 5'-8"
Steve Harris 5'-9"
Jason Newsted 5'-9"

BTW, I am 6'-5".
