AVRI raised pu poles help!!

I have done "all of the above" with those pickups. Tapped down the poles on one set, it worked fine. Ground down the A poles with a Dremel and a griniding stone bit (being careful to do a little at a time so as to NOT get them hot) and that worked, too. Maybe I was lucky.

But then I got my first set of those 62CS Fender P pickups, and those are just stellar, minimal fussing with, just follow the curve of the fretboard, and I got "that classic sound" immediately.

here is a set of 1982, '57 ri pups that are said to measure 11k

fyi i had the pups in my 77 pbass rewound by fralin. i forget exactly what the letter i wrote him said. i think it was along the lines of "i want an even sounding pickup that can sound aggressive, go 5% over if you feel the need."

took it out the other night just to measure and one coil is 5.46k and the other is 5.48k...even got rewound with the dark purple brown looking wire...

i remember the '62 reissue pickup i had installed in the bass sounding real good too...

^ thanks david, i was just researching a little trying to figure out what wire it was because it seems all the pics of the pbass pickups i see from the guys that make them now have the bright wire (which i now know is formvar).
