AVRI stack knob Qs

So I recently got a CIJ 62RI with the standard V/V/T knobs and was looking at swapping them out for the AVRI's stack knob setup. I've done a good amount of research, but always end up with conflicting reports on whether it's an upgrade or downgrade? Some people say 'more tonal variety' while others go on about 'Jaco ripped his out as soon as he got his bass'. So what's the general consensus? I'd most likely be buying a kit like the one Best Bass Gear sells.

From what I've read, they both have their merits and drawbacks. Go with what sounds right to you, experiment
