awesome SWR SM-400S head

Picked up an SWR SM-400S head from TBer "Silver Darling" the other day. I just want to say that after over 30 years playing through quite a few amps, that this is the most awesome one that I have used. I was able to get that "Near Fender Jazz" sound from my ESP that I have been longing for. Tone contours are endless and the whole rig sounds deep and sweet now. (I also picked up an Acoustic B410 cab from GC. They now own Acoustic and are offering an in-store swapout 3 year warrantee. COnsidering the three GK backline speakers that I have blown in the last two months, I couldn't resist it)

I recently had the same experience with a Vintage SWR Redhead. I have been playing about 7 years and been through at least 4 different bass rigs. I have found a very satisfying tone in the Redhead. I also used a SM500 for a while (essentially the modern equivelant to the SM400) and thought it was awesome as well. Congratulations on that bad boy. Lookin' good.

PS: My big rig uses an SWR Goliath 6x10 that I got second hand for $350!

I used an SM-400s (pre-Fender) for 10 years through an EDEN 410XLT. Running bridged into the 8 ohm cab I never needed more power. Great rig. Hundreds of gigs and never an issue. When kept in a rack case those things are completely bullet-proof. Run that Aural Enhancer ~ 10 o-clock and the sound blossoms nicely.

Sadly, I sold it when I picked an Eden E300T (all tube!). I couldn't stand to see the SWR sitting around un-used. The guy that bought it was stoked.

This is truly one of the post-SVT "modern classic" bass heads of all time allong with the GK-400/800, Eden WT-800 etc. Turn it up and enjoy it!

That was my dream amp forever as well. I finally got one in '93 and then paired mine up with a GB 410/210 STD running bridged mono. It was monsterous. Played it for 10 years. What's sad is that I ended up selling the preamp/power amp combo I bought after selling the SWR after only about 6 months. (Damn you GAS!) The only thing I always thought was confusing about the SM400s was the eq. It was almost too versatile. But what a great sounding amp that just thunders at 4ohms. Congrats.
