I definitely think you are on the right track with the BS-2.
Those long cables could definitely be sucking some high-end. The EB volume pedal is also a possible culprit (I know a few guitarists who swear it kills their tone)... Would you consider putting the BS-2 after your fuzz boxes & put the volume pedal after the buffer? The BS-2 will preserve anything entering the volume pedal that way.
TB loopers could help you out, but you will still need an "always-on" buffer.
