From my understanding, Steve will still build on a custom order. Prices are higher because he is essentially making a completely handmade bass. This was a few years ago, and I'm not sure if he is still building at all.

I don't really have a price list these days, as I only build basses one at a time. I'll quote you a price when you are ready. I build so very few, that it doesn't make sense to have a price list. And my prices are not on the low side for any bass. I work a day job, and have to build in the evening, and on weekends. So I have to price accordingly.

As for your bass, it looks like an Ash body, that is what I used for the natural finishes. The neck is hard Maple, the standard wood I used for necks.

I picked up this Bug over the weekend. It's the third EUB I've owned and I'm connecting with it more than others. I have a cheap double bass too, and this sounds different, but I think I'll prefer it whenever I need to amplify.

And, yes, pink pants and shamrock socks are a normal part of my wardrobe.

I took that wood block off the arm rest, as I think I prefer it without and it fits in the case better.

It’s a little spiky going directly into my Messenger preamp. Any recommendations for a good buffer? Something like the Empress Buffer+ maybe? Thanks in advance.

Try just turning down the tone or high freq knob if yours has an active pre. Is it distorting? Mine came with a homemade wood block on the extension, too!

Thanks, but mine isn’t active and only has a volume knob, which I think is the issue. Turning down does help in the meantime, but it gets close to distorting if I’m up too high on the bass. My understanding is that’s buffer would help, but I’m also on the lookout for a pre that works better with a high impedance.

Gotcha. Another recommendation is to contact Steve Azola and ask him for advice. Yours must be either an early one or a custom setup. His email is up in this thead.

Thanks. I've looked around a bit, and it doesn't look like the Empress is a good option for me. I'm going to try a few things and I'll reach out to Steve Azola if needed. Big picture, I'm happy with the bass as is; I just want to make sure my rig is set up well for it.

I have about the same model of Bugbass and I found that setting the volume about half way up provides similar to a passive electric bass.
