Today I tested the mag by itself, it's clean sounding. I checked the solder points on the board that the pan pot is connected to, plus I cleaned the vol and pan pots. I still have the same buzz sound. It's possible that the mag is over driving the pre. I only notice this fuzz sound when plucking low notes on the A and E strings; not on the D & G strings. I also found a trim pot on the pan pot board, which is separate from the preamp board. I'm curious as to what this trim pot is for![]()
Shouldn't hurt anything to monkey around it, in fact why not just turn the trim pot back and forth a few times in case there is some oxidation in the contacts?!
If you decide to chuck the pan pot for two independent outputs, I think the sound will be better. Of course you will need a two channel amp or outboard mixer to do this.....
