B-52 Mains - any experience

A guy in town wants to sell our band a pretty big P.A. system made by B-52. He used them for his DJ setup but says they would do fine for a live band as well.

Has anyone had good or bad experiences playing through these? They've gotten rave reviews on some Websites but would love to hear from TBers in particular.

I have no idea what kind of system you are talking about, but I'd be wary of anything low end & DJ oriented... much of it is tuned too low and not made to handle the SPLs of a live band.

Save your dough for some beat up old Yamahas or Peaveys.

I own a set of B52 LX 1515 and they sit on top of a set of LX18 folded horn subs. Need about a 1000 watts going into them to sound decent.

They are heavy, and a little harsh on the top end so they need some EQ but they can be made to sound passable.

I have not a single issue with reliability in 4 years with them. They are not the best spekaers in the world but if you get a good deal they will serve you just fine.

I had a Matrix 1000 I think it was callled. A powered sub with two additional amps inside of it to power 2 satelite 12" tops. It held ok for my 5 peice band for awhile but was better for my trio. I really loved the tops both for small duo work and even as great monitors. I almost upgraded to the matrix 2000 system but then we got a dedicated FOH person who had a very nice PA. I sold i but it is still going in a blues trio. Chris P.
