B O Bass

I just received a bass today that I bought on e-bay. The bass has the worst case of BO I have ever encountered. I used some mild window cleaner on it but it didn't help much. I even sprayed some cologne on it which helped some. Any ideas are welcome....

Rubbing alcohol? Could be IN the wood and the smell wont go away.

if you fill a case with coffee beans that generally gets the smoke smell out of it..not sure if that applies to smells in wood though. but either way you will have lots of coffee

wish i had known about that coffee beans thing when i had my Peavey Wolfgang! great guitar, but smelled like smoke so bad i couldn't play it for very long without getting a killer headache.

Tomato juice gets rid of skunk smell on dogs. Lysol spray gets rid of nasty BO on people almost instantly.

I had a mild case of this on a bass i got off ebay. First changing the strings helped since allot of funk was in them. I then took it apart and used a glass cleaner and then a citrus cleaner which took the BO away.

Bleach is a great odor killer. I bought a Hammond console organ a while back. The cat had peed, peed, peed and peed on it and the grill cloth. Couldn't play for more than a couple of minutes due to the smell. I carefully wiped down everything (except the grill cloth) and the odor went away from the wood. The grill cloth I removed and took it outside for a good cleaning with Natures Miracle, a pet "oops" deodorizer, and then sat it in the sun to dry out. The smell went away. Just be careful with the bleach on fabric things. You probably don't need white spots everywhere.

what kinda bass is it? whats the finish? poly? nitro? natural wood?

these things would be crucial to know if you want some good suggestions to remedy the smell

Sunlight is a great de-odouriser.

Alternative to filling case with coffee beans is to fill it with fresh grass cuttings & leave the bass in it overnight. Well, it's worth a try & you're cutting the grass anyway - right?
