B String Comparison - 4 different basses

Here's a quick video of how the B string sounds on my 5 stringers. You'll hear, in order:

- Warwick Thumb 5 string bolt on.

- Sadowsky M5-24.

- Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string.

- Ken Smith BSR M5W.

Nice video, I thought the $$ had the best sound, but the Thumb was a close second. Sadowsky takes third. Did you do them all passive? I know the Thumb is and the $$ can be, but I'm not sure about the Sadowsky or the Smith.

I recorded them active. They can all be switched to passive. I like having that feature for peace of mind.

I like the Ken Smith.
Seems to have a bit of "piano bass key"growl.
Like my Wolf 7 string's B.

No. The Thumb has D'addario XL, Sadowsky has Sadowsky Blue Label, and the Ken Smith and Corvette $$ both have Carvin stainless steel.

The strings are all at least a year old. I should probably change them, especially the Thumb which has a better sounding B string than what you hear on the recording.

The two I liked the best both had the same strings.................and I have not liked to play SS strings for some time now. Funny because through most of the 70's all of the 80's and 90's all I would play were Roto Sound Rounds. Mmmmm, maybe I should grab a set SS strings.

Never had a chance to play one, though I do like his strings, definitely among the better Bs out there.
