Babicz vs ksm foundation?

I'm wanting to upgrade my bass bridge,I'm not sure if the aluminum ksm or the steel Babicz is a good choice, who is easier to install, are they better than the old baddass bridges, anyone shine a light on this subject

Which ever bridge you decide to go with, I would go with a Brass or Steel bridge. Aluminum in my opionion has never been great for tone. Then you should take that BAII bridge and put it in the mail and send it to me. LOL.

Actually I agree with Shawn2000.

BAII bridges are well, BA!!

Lol,I don't have a badass bridge, however I have a fretless that the stock bridge is ok but not sufficient to what I want,I'm just wanting to buy the bridge and drop it off to a luthier and have the whole thing done once and it'll probably never leave my house again lol

Babisz bridges look really complex to install and then setup. at least compared to most or all other bridges ive seen. and i cant really see TOO much of a selling point.. i mean, the back of the bridge is different, ie more complex but no necessarily better. whats so good about that? If anyone knows id love to find out as well because ive never seen one in real life or heard a bass with one on it but i really dont think it could be to much of a difference. I may be wrong though.
As for the badass, Ive never used any of them, but I am deffinatly planning to for my next full build.
this is just my 2 cents though.
cheers

I think the babicz is aluminium.
Since I personally prefer aluminium to brass( I would ,in fact not use a brass bridge again since I very much dislike what it does to the tone.) I wouldn't have a problem with either, provided the price is right and would go with whatever feels better under the hand and is easier to set up.
I wasn't aware that the ksm was alu...good to know :-).

I got Babicz on my Squier 5 and VM Jazz also took the Badass off my Fender Aerodyne and put the Babicz on that one. You can see that one in the Pictures. I love the engineering they give you alot of adjustments in string highth and intonation plus they lock in that adjustment. That is a plus. Now if the idea is to keep weight off our shoulders then Aluminum helps out alot compared to brass.I think the sound difference from brass is negligable. It is the wood that gives most of the sound.I think the Badass I took off could be twice as heavy. I didnt put it on a scale but feels like that. It was the bridge to go to in the last century back with 8 tracks and cassett decks.

Actually, it's quite the contrary. They are super easy to set up. There are 2 allen screws that take the same size wrench. Loosen the one on the top to free up the cam, adjust the cam to raise/lower the string height with the lower screw, then tighten the first screw down to lock it in place. No tilted barrels or askew posts with only one leg touching.

Fantastic bridge. I have one on the bass in my avatar. It's a neckthrough semi-hollow and that bridge helps give it a sick amount of sustain.

The only drawback: No string through body....:crying:

Proof of just how deceiving looks can be sometimes.

I have a babicz in my MIM j and it was as easy to install as taking off the old L plate and using the included screws to mount the babicz. Setup was just as easy.

Can't tell any difference in tone, but intonation and tuning are now easy to get and keep, and the strings are always in the same place which helped my right hand a lot.

In fairness, using the included screws will insure you can't go back to the stock bridge, at least it did on my MIM. The babicz screws are just a shade larger than the stock screws so using them enlarges the hole enough the stockers won't grab. You could use the babicz screws to mount the L plate, but the screws are flat head where the stock screws are round head so it will look different, but would work just fine.

This was not an issue for me because I'm never going back to the stock L plate, but YMMV. If you are a fickle sort or allow yourself to be influenced by people who will question your choices when it comes to your bass, you may just want to just stick with what you have and avoid the problem of explaining why you wanted to change in the first place.

I am the Western USA sales rep for KSM guitars and the foundation bridge. I have to tell you that I have a badass bridge, a hipshot bridge and a foundation bridge. Now my opinion is this, they are all great bridges without a doubt, but as far as bulkiness and size, the foundation is smaller and obviously lighter than the hipshot and the badass.

I just sold 15 bridges to Ed Romans custom shop, he got a hold of one of the foundation bridges and installed it on an Abstract Caesar Bass.

I can tell you that I became a fan of this bridge before I even worked for Kevin, hearing the difference and sustain it adds to your bass is why I work and want to represent this company.
Any questions feel free to ask.

I agree about sticking with it if you choose to put it on your bass, one reason I am posting this ad is to hear opinions of others but also of the horror stories before I modify my vintage fretless, the one thing I don't like about the Babicz is the screws are only on the backside, as where the ksm also screws down the back and the front, anyhow my curiosity got me to post this and see others thoughts and I have appreciated everyone's input

Old thread, I know, but, if KSM is listening, I'd love to try one of your 5-string bridges in a 19mm spacing. (According to the website, the 5-string is 23/32" spacing, or a hair over 18 mm). Even the Hipshot bridges seem to have a little side-to-side play (at least when adjusting the saddles, not sure if there's any while actually playing), so I like the idea of something that locks down and is tight to begin with.

I can't be the only one who'd like to try this with 3/4" spacing!

I'd be willing to try one as well. With Fender replacement mounting holes drilled please. :hyper:
