Bacchus Marcus Miller model

This is an old model, not made anymore. As you can see Bacchus used to use identical Fender headstocks before Fender copyrighted them. I'm not really sure what the deal was with the Miller model, most probably a customer request.

These MM copies do go a number of years back - my guess for the lack of Fender's legal attention to this is that Bacchus is a small builder, but I've always wondered about it as well. Maybe Fender did talk to them at one point, because current Bacchus headstocks have more of a Sadowsky look.

The two Bacchus basses I've tried were top-notch in every way - fabulous instruments.

Yeah they're great instruments. They were definitely given the slap on the wrist at one stage, cause like you say, the headstocks are now shaped differently (like a mixture between Sadowsky/Lakland).

This was not a customer request, a small run of 150 or so was made I think under license from Fender for the Japanese Market. I believe this was when they were looking for other builders other than Fujigen for their higher end Fender Japan series. Atelier Z also made a MM model too, also i believe under license just for the Japanese Market. This Bacchus is very high quality, hand made craftsmanship and is considered to be better than the Fender USA model in some ways. The Atelier one was also great, although about twice the price of the Bacchus version.

I own one of these. I got it online about 4 or 5 years ago from a pawn shop in Montana, I believe. If it was the only jazz bass I was ever allowed to have, I wouldn't be disappointed. I would have never said that about the Fender MM I had.
