Back to practice

I'm looking to start practicing again after long layover. 2 years or so. I have full time job, doing some technical work for airline, so basically I have few hours in the evening before I go to sleep and I'm usually really tired after work, that's my main excuse.
In fact all this time I was playing with the band, but I lost a lot of my technical skills. The reason why I want to start practicing again is that I hate my job and I need the way to change things. I've read hundreds of articles on "how to find my dream job" and I still can’t find it, that's because I'm scared to admit that I want to be a musician, but I'm lazy to practice and improve my skills as a musician.
My band was recently offered to make a record and a video free of charge and I think I might be ashamed of my results on this record, so I need some practice.
The main problem is that after not having this routine for a while, I don't know where to start. I was thinking of improving bass lines that lay on a record and doing technical exercises. In fact my weak side is my ears and musicality. When I’m thinking about training ears and scales and all that stuff it really puts me off, though I know it is very important and if I work on that it may really change things for me.
I hope you guys can help me out, maybe someone else was going through a similar experience.

Get up early enough in the morning to do your practice before work. Usually the problem is not time but priority. The music business is a tough one and that's good.... it keeps the people who aren't dedicated to the art out of the business. In other words, you gotta want it so bad that you have to 'try to find time' for all other aspects of your life.

In fact I already started waking up early in the morning. 5:30 is earliest I could so far. Main problem is that in our country we mainly live in apartments, which means - neighbours. They may not like someone practicing slap or something loud 5:30 in the morning. :) I may practice unplugged, but that could be less effective I guess.

CallMeBlind, look into buying this. Also, having a good pair of headphones is a + when using
this device. I bought my KORPX4D used on ebay.Your early 5:30 practice problems will be
over with. Enjoy !!!

I have a similar situation as you. But I manage to get about 3 1 sessions a week plus band practice. To organize myself I think about whats the most important thing at this moment in terms of bass, and thats the impending doom of recording. My band mates will find out I've been legatoing a line or find out my weakspots. So for me thats the most important thing to focus on. All the scales, styles, theory and technique wont save you when your under pressure in a recording studio or on stage and you cant pull of the bass line you came up with becasue you havent practiced them.
