Back-up for SVT?

Hi all,

I'm considering a non-tube (read: not heavy) alternative to my SVT2-nonpro, instead of another SVT.

MUST have that trademark warm low mid and low end beef, and decent volume.
FWIW, I find an Ampeg V4b to be too thin here, and not quite loud enough.

So what is out there that can do a good SVT impression that is also lightweight-ish?

7-pro would be my first choice followed by a PF-800.

7 Pro gets good reviews. I've owned almost all of the SVT amps at some point. My absolute FAVORITE that wasn't all tubes was the SVT 6 Pro. It's not the absolute lightest. But put it in a 2 space deep rack and forget about it.

1100 Watts. MOSFET power. Learn the voltage control and you can go from modern to SVT in the turn of a knob. No other SVT got closer to the real thing than the 6 did for me. Not even close. It's a sleeper of an amp. It got overlooked by the market for some reason. Maybe it came out at a time when the lightweight stuff was just taking over.

Another really nice amp to consider it Mesa Walkabout or WD800. The latter is the latest version with some updated features and tweaks that were (literally) requested by us and honored by @agedhorse and the team at Mesa. It'll do warm for days. Plenty of headroom at 800 watts. 2 ohm capable. Mids, you say? The para mids section will let you dial in (or out) just about any mid frequency you want.

I'm also a big believer the the Mesa WD800 as a lightweight alternative to an SVT head. A couple months ago I was in the mood to play "mix and match" with my gear. I took my SVT 50th anniversary head off of its matching 810 cabinet and set the WD800 on top of the cabinet where the SVT head sat. It looked funny as hell.....but the laughter stopped after I started playing. The WD800 through the fridge was an incredible combination. To my ears, I could get extremely close to an SVT sound. I kept the WD-800 paired with the 810 while rehearsing with my band later that week; the sound was amazing and very Ampeg-ish in character.

Best of all, the Mesa WD-800 is small and light. I keep it in a Pelican case with my cords. It's a great travel partner.
