I'm looking for a way to create backing songs for practice. I want to be able to plug in chords measure by measure. I have a boss jam station but can't figure it out. I'm running Mac OSx, and I don't care about cost.

I haven't used it since high school but band in a box is one solution. I'm sure there are others these days, but that's the first one that pops to mind.

+1 for Band-in-a-box. You can type in chords measure-by-measure, and there are tons of files available free from people who have already programmed songs. You can change key, change tempo, loop sections that are difficult, etc. It's a very valuable practice tool IMHO.

And the Real Tracks are good enough to create demo's with.
RealBand is a basic daw that comes with Band in a box and it's not bad at all. Quite good in many ways. You can also just type in chords, and it too will generate real tracks.
There a many BIAB sites with songs already inputted. Check the Yahoo forum.

BinaB is the way to go. there are websites dedicated to BinaB formatted songs. you can practically download the whole fake book in BinB format and play along.
