Backordered Ampeg Heritage 50th Anniversary SVT

I ordered a 212AV back in Nov/Dec (been so long I can't remember anymore). Finally arrived yesterday.

Wonder if they're starting to catch up with backorders?
Wow that’s quite a wait. Not sure on cabs. I sent Ampeg a message to see if they were still producing these amps and they told they made a batch early May. Mine was one of those. I noticed some of the PF-50 heads showed up as well.

So I would like to mention, the '75 channel volume pot is slightly scratchy, but I'm sure some deoxit will set it right. Also, I put the amp in the trailer and at the first gig, 3 of the power amp screws in the bottom of the amp fell out during transport and the other two were very loose. Put back together and tightened down and so far so good, but I would recommend going through and tightening screws when you get yours

I bought a 50th anniversary SVT from Thomann last fall and after about 50 gigs it died.

First time was about two weeks ago during a gig when it went completely dead. Just off.
Glad I had a backup head. After the gig I tried to turn it on and it went on for about a second and then died again.

took it to atech about a week later. He checked the fuse, it was ok.
Turned it on and it just worked normally… strange.

Last weekend took it to a gig and it worked just normal.

Yesterday at soundcheck i turn the thing on and everything seems promising.
Fan works, tubes glow and they warm up, red light on the front panel glows but flicking the standby switch does nothing and the red light stays on and theres no sound.

I tried all the different cables I had but nothing worked. Also went through all the inputs. And tried the power amp in aswell. Nothing.
The bias lights are not on either.

I called the tech who cheked it earlier and he suspected the tubes.

Such a shame when it’s such a new amp. Thomann has a 3-year quarantee and I’m waiting to hear if they have any ideas. Its a PITA to ship that thing to Germany…

Well, back to the Super Bassman 300 for the time being!

I believe the 50th AV is closer related to the SVT VR than the Classic.

The VR has a protection circuit that forces the amp into standby if the voltage is low. With some VRs this can occur at 115V, which is not actually very low. Power can be pretty sketchy at some performance venues, so it's not unusual to see 115V or less.

Here is a page that documents a bypass mod for the VR: SVT-VR (homestead.com)

There are also various TB threads that discuss the mod.

I suggest having your tech confirm your amp has the same problem. IMHO a good tech should have some way of adjusting the line voltage such as a variable power supply or variac. The tech should also confirm the mod is suitable for the 50th AV. If yes, it's an easy fix.
