We have, according to all reports, have lost both Jimmy Heath and Claudio Roditi. I only met Jimmy Heath in passing, did a little playing with Jeb Patton, who was pianist in his group. Did a small tour with a singer, Paquito de Rivera's group with Claudio on trumpet and flugelhorn was also on the tour; Ed Simon was the pianist with that group but when we hit the Canadian leg, hadn't packed his passport and got dropped in NYC. Claudio grabbed the last row of the plane (which was full of musicians - our group, Paquito's group, and some society big band) so he could start scrabbling out charts for the pianist who was going to be subbing the piano chair that evening. Quiet, funny guy.
