Bad pickups or bad output jack?

One thing I don't like about the barrel jack is that I have to pretty much force the receiver into the bass in order to make it snug, so I worry that it'll eventually screw up the finish.

I have tried 3 sets and the Getaria wireless set is problematic. Flip mine up and down and crackling loss of signal.
