Badass Bridge

a different bridge will have an impact on your tone. this applies to any bass or guitar. I have BadAsses on all my Fender-like basses. I've always used them and liked them better than stock... but I have no experience with Gotoh or Hipshot stuff.
Some like the difference some don't... but there will be a difference. Also whether the different tone is worth it vs the $ and/or added weight is also a personal decision

i dig it I put one on my squire vm jazz and I think it is a huge improvement I got the slotted one in chrome. Although I have not tried the hipshot but I like the fact they do offer a string through bridge and might try one on a Sx maybe, it is hard for me to buy any bass cheap price or not unless I play it first.
the mass of the badass bridge is enough to change the entire tone of the bass. when i took of the stock bridge off my mim fender p bass it was like scrap metal (hyperbole). when i took out the badass II from the packaging it was simply massive.
I felt like the BAII took away a lot of lows, and low mids. I ended up putting the stock bridge back on. It now sounds fat as hell again, it also sounds like a Fender again. Also, to me, what the BAII did the most is compress the tone quite a bit. If you like this, then you should get a Badass; I also felt like the tone knob didn't change the tone anymore. With the higher mass bridge, I'd roll the tone all the way off and it would still sound very bright and sharp sounding, not as round as it sounded originally with the stock bridge. But I've said it once before, this is just my opinion. I also play Reggae quite a bit and don't necessarily like a compressed-sharp tone. If I played more hard rock then the BAII would apply much more to cutting through the mix. Peace!
Compressed is probably the wrong word but I see what you mean. Still sounds very Fender like too me, just more focused, can see why you changed back for Reggea. Gonna be using my Fender Bullet with Badass II for a Reggea and Soul covers band I'm doing with some of my mates for another mates birthday, hope it'll be ok.
Yeah Swami, to tell you the truth, it's all based on personal preference. To me, I like the way my P bass & J bass sound in their stock form. I did use the word compressed, but I will agree with you on the word more focused. I just like the way these basses sound with a somewhat unclear sound, I also use Fender 9050M Flats, which are high tension strings, and in my opinion these things make your tone super clear. But I think your bullet bass will sound fine with your soul/reggae gig coming up. The only thing I would recommend is to throw some flatwound strings on there which will take away a lot of the brightness that rounds and a badass contribute to. The Flats will make you sound super low, and you will be thumpin' like crazy, and rattling everyone's chest in the crowd. Good luck bro!
I have a ba2 on my p and jazz basses. I noticed a difference in both. The jazz seems to sound brighter. And the p bass sounds more growly. Although the volume doesnt sound as loud as it used to but thats not a big deal. Just turn up your amp alittle. It also sounds clearer and notes ring longer.
Hopefully I'll get to use my NV215, I use it for rock but this is what it was born for
