Baer Amplification Megathread!

I've used the 9.0 quite a bit with the ML112. The main bass I used with it was a 04 Fender mia dlx J V.
The settings I usually found working for me were bass @ 1:00,
mids at about 1K, down to 11:00, highs flat or @ 11:00.
I found that I used just about the same settings using the Berg AE210. If I needed more lows from the amp (not the speaker) I could add some with the active eq on the bass.

Roger preferred the Markbass LMII and the Eden Wt400. Not for power but more for the built in eq points.

Thank you. I used to own a Shuttle 9.0 and really liked it, but moved to the Streamliner. Thinking about picking up a Shuttle 9.0 again as I've moved to using mostly J basses. I happen to have an 05 Fender ADJV so your response helps.

Just to throw it out there. I had Carey Nordstrand reshape the baseball bat neck on my J V. Its now one of the best Fender V basses most of my friends have played. It feels amazing. My Tyler 5 also worked quite well with the ML112.

One observation using my Markbass F500:
The F500 low end is eq's at 40hz. With most of my other boxes, boosting the lows darkens it up a bit and helps to widen the lows. With the Baer I get LOWS! The box takes eq very well. Just for fun I tried boosting the lows when I was using the new ML115 on a gig. The soundman freaked. It was huge!

Funny how we all end up at the place we need to be. I spent a decade playing my Fodera Emperor Elite 5, and eventually figured out that I was pretty much using it and trying to make it sound like a J bass. Moved to more traditional instruments and never looked back!

Lots of different paths to that 'tone in your head':D

Exactly my story as well. Kept trying to make boutique, high-end basses with coffee table tops sound like a great jazz bass. Then I found Nordstrands. Sold Roscoe, Modulus, F Bass and have been thrilled with my Nordy's ever since. Yeah I kinda of miss the beauty and refinements my other basses offer, but the trade offs kept me from tried and true old school classic bass tones. now, ....Back to our regularly scheduled thread. :D

Regarding fancy basses and such, I too was on the quest. I finally decided I loved jazz bass more than anything, but there was one error I had made that took me some time to figure out. I only liked them best when recording. Live they always seemed to get lost in the mix, I think because they have a natural scoop in their voicing. I then found that I enjoy a more even tone live with a touch of a vintage appeal, such as the Lakland 44/55 basses. Then I started using IEM's on a regular basis a few years ago, and that complicated things even more for me, since a jazz bass sounds killer in a good IEM mix, and you get spoiled by that such that playing through an amp/cab can never give you that same level of presence.

The ML112 for me has really helped bridge the gap between all this in a way other cabs didn't really do. It's big, full, articulate, punchy, grindy and present without ever sounding harsh or pingy. I'm able to enjoy my jazz, precision, and Lakland basses through them just like I do with IEM's or studio cans.

The only drawback is that now I'm wondering what all those super fancy modern basses I used to own would sound like with the ML112. :help:
