I’m planning to pick up an Ibanez Mezzo, 32 inch scale bass. I want a gig bag(preferably) or case that actually fits the bass and see that Ibanez does not make a dedicated one for that scale length. Any ideas for what is out there that won’t be way too big for that bass?
I use a Mono vertical for all of my gig bag needs. Everything from my jazz to my Starcaster to my customs fit in there. Except my Hofner Club. It's too small for anything.
My bass is scheduled to arrive Wednesday... It doesn’t look as if anybody makes an off the shelf version of a case or bag for a medium scale bass. I went ahead and ordered a Reunion Blues Renegade bag from Amazon - it seems they still had a few of a discontinued model at low prices. It is a nice bag - old school design but made of what looks/feels to be nubuck leather. At the original price the bag would have been the same as the bass . My Bee (also a medium scale) fits fine in it so I expect the Mezzo should be OK too.
For what it's worth, the Mezzo doesn't fit quite correctly in the molded Ibanez SR-specific case. I thought it might, because the body looks to be the full Gio Soundgear size, but the body and thus the neck end up sitting at an able in the case.
I just bought a Mezzo and am shopping for a properly-sized case, too. I carry my Mikro in a Strat case -- the little bass is actually a bit short for it. Following this thread . . .
Check out the Carvin/Kiesel Ultimate Soft Case SC8N. I use them for my 32" scale Kubickis. They're a snug fit with great support, and a lot more compact than Mono or RB full size cases.
Somebody somewhere said these cases fit well: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-mgmbg-molded-abs-electric-bass-case/h86560000000000?pfm=home_page.rr1|RecentHistoricalItems
Just for grins, I tried my Mezzo in a Strat gig bag . . . just 3cm too long! Somewhere, there's a guitar gig bag that is just long enough to fit.
This is what I use really like it, Gator transit Gig Bag, but I put some extra velcro in there to stick the headstock pad lower. Then in that space I put my rolled up strap and tuner.
Yep, the Fender short scale bass bag works like a charm. Decently padded and doesn’t cost more than the bass!
