Over the last week, i had run my bass board through its paces & tweaked it til it finally made sense.
I moved my chorus & 6 band eq to the very end. Placed the dirt before it but still after the 10 band. In doing so, the chorus was still audible when distortion/drive is kicked in. However, i removed my fx loop box & the bass di +. Although it sounded alright - i dont dig it as much as i had. Maybe in another time frame itll be used, but for now the bass di is off my board. Which leaves a ton of room for another unit. Though i do believe the dod 250 will be replaced by the jam rattler at some point since it gives me low & high gain options.

Been toying around with my gear this past week, testing various Gain types through my bass rig. Everything from the proco Rat of my guitar rig with my 6 band EQ, to RAT & my DOD Boost 410. & even just straight into my small marshall mB15 combo on the "classic" channel - as that's the type of gain i was enjoying. The gain stays really thick & heavy no matter where its control is set. With enough bite for attack definition.
After the RAT > 6 band EQ yielded good results, i tried RAT > DOD boost, & Boost > Rat. While good, it wasn't anything spectacular - just able to give more or less bite via the boosts tone control.
Which got me thinking about my bass DI again, only as a test of: "what if i use it as a RAT + EQ in one enclosure?". & after viewing the EQ section as non standard, i was able to dial in the exact distortion i was hearing for a while. & after testing the Bass DI with my DOD boost (to see if it would act as the Jam Rattler bass in a sense) & my DOD 250 Drive (see how the gains would stack);
With the Boost, it was alright, once again nothing fancy or over the top. just a nice boost where the tone control is handy if i wanted a slight bite boost or more warmth without messing on the DI. With the 250 drive into the DI, it was decent. Not the greatest though. The sound felt muffled, especially when driving the gain up on the 250. this was how i had it the first time when my bass DI was on my board. For fun, i ran the signal DI > 250, & messed about with the 250's gain range. Needless to say, this blew me away! Leaving the Bass DI set as i had, & using the 250 for the gain spectrum, it could act as a nice boost to the DI (with the 250 gain at zero), to being chaotic mess (250 gain maxed out) & anything in between.
& With that, my bass DI is back on my board
No idea if the 6 band EQ will stay in the equation, depends how the drives interact with the chorus engaged. But my signal chain is now as follows: Bass > ditto Loop > Vol pedal > Digiflex DI box > MXR 10 band EQ > MXR Bass D.I. + > DOD 250 Drive > (6 band EQ) > Afterglow Chorus > Amp.
The Jam Pedals Rattler is still in my head as an option. But for now, if i can save my dough & utilize this to the full potential it has in store, it'll be awesome.
Figured i'd update this thread before the end of the year just to conclude in some way:
^^^I found a Rattler, over in my Dad's part of the woods of Canada xD, he picked it up for me, & i've just brought it back home over the weekend past. Didn't have much time to fiddle around, but thus far, it sounds good. My only slight complaint with it, is that unity volume is at 1. But i digress, even my MXR bass d.I.+ distortion side is set at 1 on its volume. The Gain boost switch is awesome, it lets me set the overall base tone as a low gain, & the switch kicks up the heat. So this is now on my smaller bass board along with the afterglow chorus (with a few other pedals being searched for in the following process).
^^^I've made myself a new bigger bass board. & added my swollen pickle to the fold - i've always wanted to have a dedicated fuzz on bass, & after much tweaking with this within my board (placed after my EQ), it sounds godly. Perfect amount of cut through & low end to sucker punch chests into dancing Had rid of the mxr 6 band Eq as it wasn't adding anything to my mix/tone, & replaced the afterglow chorus with the thunderstorm flanger of the same company/series (tc electronic affordable bucket brigade). I prefer the flanger overall within this set up as it picks up where the chorus leaves off. Chorus is subtle & adds a nice lush, the flanger can do that & a lot more chaotic mess when needed. Would probably upgrade the volume pedal to one with the tuner incorporated (saves some space on the board), add a boss OC5 octave (either before or after the fuzz) & that would be my signal chain.
In the small board, i've gotten an envelop filter manta bass by soundblox/source audio & still discovering it as i go along. Will invest in an expression pedal for it (to act as a wah control), & another 10 band EQ, ditto loop, & delay of some kind. Just different flavour of sounds all around.

My Tech21 Dug Pinnick distortion pedal is by far... the best overdrive/distortion I've ever achieved with bass.
Never heard of it, but will gladly check it out
EDIT: Just had a listen to it, & though it's really cool - i can achieve the same kind of grind/grit it gives with my M80 mxr bass d.i. + in conjunction with the DOD 250 drive. Thanks for the suggestion/opinion though! Love discovering new pedals especially for dirt flavours
