band ad..."must have sufficient income"

None of that has anything at all to do with what I wrote in the post you quoted.

Nope. Not gonna buy the "poorest guy with the crappiest equipment must be the true artist cuz he didn't sell out and buy a real axe" argument, despite how it has been romanticized in movies and such. All that says to me is that you're totally incapable of getting your act together, despite the fact that you may have real gifts. The greats at any instrument were/are always on the prowl for a new and better axe, or have settled in on high-end gear. Jaco may have had some chops, be he was a waste of a human being and of a talent, and not someone to be admired or emulated.

Knowledge and discussion are GOOD things, not things to be shunned or ridiculed. Good gear is a GOOD thing, too, whether it's a reliable amp or a reliable car. Ignorance and incapability are never good things. Lack of knowledge and the ability to discuss your craft doesn't hide greatness, it only emphasizes that ignorance and incapability.

It's been my experience, especially here on TB, that people touting the benefits of rat gear are simply crying sour grapes, and could be helping themselves a lot more setting their sights higher. IME/YMMV.
