"Band Aid"... the movie...

'Anna and Ben can't stop fighting. Advised by their therapist to try and work through their grief unconventionally, they are reminded of their shared love of music. In a last-ditch effort to save their marriage, they decide to turn all of their fights into songs, and with the help of their neighbor, Dave, they start a band.'*

Sounds like a date night for TB'ers and their significant others, and it involves music... what more could you ask for? Well, besides that...

Possibilities. Right after our marriage, my wife and I put together a band comprised of Sears employees for the big annual Sears picnic/family day. My mother worked at Sears. I played guitar and I taught my wife a few numbers on my '66 Fender P bass. She was 5'2", 125 pounds. That Pbass swallowed her. Drummer, sax and keys were Sears employees. The hour long show we did was not bad for a one time band. Wish I had pics, but this was in 1974, not as many photo takers then. :)

Sounds like a common plot with a "hip" twist on it.
Usually the actors are not real musicians and the nuts and bolts of putting a band together are glossed over.
Nonetheless, the reality is usually the opposite. A couple are in a band and they start fighting then the band breaks up.
Aside from movies that are based on existing artists like, Purple Rain, Hard Days Night, etc., some of the best
films showing the nitty-gritty of putting a band together have been both films Glen Hansard has been in;
'The Commitments' and 'Once'.

I can't be the only person who cringes when they see a "musician" in a movie, and you can tell they've never touched an instrument in their life. Even in just the thumbnail for the trailer, I can see the whole "I don't know what to do with my hands while I hold the bass" thing going on.

The singer in my band now was in an "all lawyer band" before us. They put the band together to play the national bar association convention and were from all over the country. They called themselves "The Pro-Bonos" and had shirts with that and "We do it for free" on the back. I always thought that was a neat concept.

My ex & I broke up because I was in a band.... when one band folded she encouraged me to better myself and get into another band, so I did and soon the band started getting loads of gigs (covers)... then the ex started complaining "you're never home - you're always out with your stupid band"! then we broke up.... hey I was only 23....

No, I wouldn’t feel right hittin’ ‘Like’...

but Thanks for reminding of how lucky I am to have married (at 23) a girl who, not once in 40 years, has busted my balls over me playing my bass.
The other side of that coin: not once in 40 years have I ever given her Any reason to worry about what I was actually Doing while I was out playing my bass.

...and Yeah!
I liked the movie. :)

Been there. There's nothing quite like the joy of looking out from the stage, seeing a room full of people smiling and enjoying your show, and then, spotting your significant other sitting off to the side of the room, sulking and resentful of what you're doing, a visible pout and/or glare on her face.

That relationship did not last much longer. Someone who shows up just to purposefully skunk any good vibe you have going is working with a pretty screwed-up notion of "love."

Mrs.Fingers and I are both total trash talkers. "Shut up or I will eat your face" is a term of endearment. Her pet name for me is "$#!+wad" (first part is the S word for poop.)

I'm having a great laugh imagining the songs we would write together. We would be able to share them with exactly zero humans. :roflmao:
