Band names

Good answer. There are loads of websites and books full of lists of funny or "cool" band names, not to mention dozens of threads on every music forum, and it's easy to sit around throwing word combinations or random sounds together. So just compile a boatload of those potentials and for each one ask yourself "if I didn't know the band, and I saw that name, would I be able to make a connection between the name and what the band sounds like?" Then once you have a narrowed-down list of ones that "work", weed out the ones that are clunky-sounding, hard to spell or pronounce, or embarrassing to say. Then from there IMO the next thing is to go online and see which of the remaining options are already taken by other bands. If you found a name that "sounds like the band sounds", is not awkward or embarrassing to say, and not already taken, then there's your band name. If you actually find more than one name that meets all that criteria, then the band can vote between them. But I would not open the vote to any new suggestions from the stoned guitarist etc. that hadn't been through the same selection process.

first Google every idea you have to make sure there isn't some Japanese punk band with the same name. My friends band had that problem and they got endless crap for it.

Just think of something that is sort of generic, but edgy so that it has widespread appeal. Remember, any band name that sounds like it came from a Anne Rice novel or Egyptian history usually goes down in flames pretty fast.

We are all massive ghostbusters fans, the name Spengler "just popped in there" :)

Tho sadly there are a few other bands that have the same name, thankfully only one other one seems to have been active and anything more than a joke band. And even more thankfully, I dont think the name is related, plus we are totally different genres, so, not an issue :)

I hope the next band I'm in has a better name than my previous band (The Funky Wizards) hahaha...
We came up with that because we wanted to mess with the singer. We found some paper mache masks, put them on, and told the singer we voted that the band name would be "The Funky Wizards"
