Band Promote... scam?

FWIW I think your follow-up responses were perfectly reasonable, and I am no longer inclined to doubt your statements at this point. Thing is though about this forum, we see so many scammers, shills, and sockpuppets on here that anything that even vaguely resembles a scam will get a "mob with torches and pitchforks" response. So assuming you're legit, it really is best to take these negative responses with an appropriate grain of salt and not be bothered.

Thanks for that. This is the first post out of like 15 since my initial comment that hasn't been, to some degree, malicious. I appreciate it.

here's the way it works...90% of people in the music business are full of crap, and 9.999% of the rest are regular musicians looking for a paycheck. the other 0.001% won't talk to you because they're set. so we're bad people if we're badmouthing someone who sounds a little shady, i guess.

I'm not saying anyone is a bad person. What I am saying is that it has become glaringly obvious that very few people really care that I had actual information to offer (let's not forget that that was the exact question that was posed in the initial post -- "anyone work with them? it sounds scammy, but you never know"). But instead this forum has turned into some kind of witch hunt and people just seem to be more interested in continuing to slander the name of someone that they haven't worked with, or even spoken to. You've got to be able to understand my frustration with that. Not to mention the fun comments people made about me, simply for coming to his defense (a "shill?" Seriously?). I've clearly just been spinning my wheels.

So no, I don't think your a bad person. I don't even know you. What right would I have to say that? I'm just saying that unless you have a bonafide reason to trash someone's name (i.e. Brett Stuart and the case of the disappearing 12k), maybe try to refrain. That's just my take on things though, so do whatever you'd like I guess.

Two plays a day on myspace isn't something that I'd advertise as a success either... good job buddy!

Two plays a day? I'm guessing you're referring to, "An Ancient Fire Burns" on our myspace....which was put up recently, so yes, if you average it out from when we first set up that myspace account, then it'd be two plays a day....unfortunately for your "argument", it wasn't written then, let alone recorded.

But hey, I don't claim to be a success, still getting more than $100 for a gig though, regardless of where it is or whether we've played there before.

In relation to GearHeadBassMan's first comment:

I too recieved a message over myspace which is very similar. Here it is.....

Hello guys,

Your songs are cool, especially A Decent Proposal.
I see that you are playing some shows in Ireland this summer, who's your agent?

I want to help you. We help the best independent bands with PR and Promotions including Film and TV licensing opportunities.

Email my boss Mike Galaxy at [email protected] and he will fill you in with more details. I am his assistant. Be sure to include your band name in subject so he see’s you right away.

Best,

Kasia

I would think it a scam considering both messages are so similar and the fact that I recieved my message 3 years after GearHeadBassMan did.

This guy is a 100% scam artist --- a few years back I paid him somewhere between 100$ - 200$ for "touring & promotional" resources. I received absolutely nothing in return --- to this day I still get ******** emails from him asking me to play poopy shows for free with one of his "top acts." I don't even know if he runs the scam anymore, but if so RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
