He was arrested, detained and released. There's a court date filed for the end of Jan. with him by my guitar player, though from what I understand its mostly a criminal proceeding.

Details on my end are scant at best since my former guitarist isn't the best at returning texts or answering phone calls.

I think I'm allowed to file a civil suit and I plan on seeing a lawyer once I get some money.

I live right near Port Richmond. I also got the dubious honor of being the only white guy on my street.

On the upside, my spanish is starting to get better, but I'm probably relocating to Brooklyn soon.

Waiting till my lease is up. Currently I'm renting a house for dirt cheap since no one else wants to live here. An apartment is more money and less space.

in the future - insure your gear - at any cost!

Good thing about the tri-state area - is when someone fences something - it usually turns up in a recoverable network - especially given the incestuous nature of cragslist/talkbass/other gear forums/ and the NY/NJ club scene. somebody's bound to see something - and/or F-up and sell to a person in the area.

I live in prospect gardens and keep my stuff in the basement - never had a reason to worry - even about the cars in my drive way - but I have all my gear fully insured.

FWIW - your homeowner's insurance may cover theft from your vehicle. That is if you have homeowner's insurance. Might be worth a phone call.

I agree - move. It's too expensive to live in cheap ghetto housing. Been there - done that. What you save in rent you pay triple to recover from theft, vandalism, and overpriced insurance. Peace of mind is a priceless benefit.

Hey, you can never assume anything's safe. I borrowed a friend's car in July (it was a third car for him and wasn't being used). I live on the upper west side of Manhattan; very safe, expensive, blah, blah. Well, the car was stolen from Riverside Blvd. between 73rd & 74th Streets. Filed a report, car turned up stripped to its bones two months later in Newark. The Police said it was the first car theft reported in the 20th Precinct in months.

Friend was reimbursed for far more then the car was worth in the end, though.

Moral of the story for me is never, ever leave anything in the car. And even if you garage it, think twice.
