Bandmix?

Used it for a couple of years in Tampa. Responded to a band needing a lead singer. Told them I was familiar with their material and ironically they were also looking for a bass player. I joined and worked steady with them for a couple of years.
Who know.

I believe the only difference between free and paid is being able to contact someone through their ad. So I had paid for a month, contacted everyone I was interested in, and did not re-up the following month. I have done that several times. I have had a few contact me...nothing I was interested in. But I did find a keyboardist for one band I was in and I met a few great singers.

In San Diego, I the CL is awful. Heck, the old "Reader" ads we used to run were better. I recently was told that if I really want to network, folks are ignoring the CL & whatnot and expecting you'll hunt them down at gigs. Maybe this is just a jazz thing... but I might have to start doing that.

I guess it depends on the area.

I haven't been on it in awhile but I did find my current band through it. I've gotten a lot of messages and contacted a lot of bands. I didn't want to pay for it at first but I did a month just so I could have unrestricted access to find someone and did that as soon as possible. I found my band and shut it down...

I found our female backing vocalist on Bandmix, and she's a winner. I've also received a couple inquiries from bands looking for a bass player -- nothing that panned out though. I think it takes a little more effort to create a profile on Bandmix vs. just slapping a lame ad on Craigslist. In that regard, I think Bandmix has a little more potential than CL.

I guess it depends on the area.
and: maybe the 'timing' ---

i'm in the midwest: CL can work, but there are periods where nobody responds, and periods where eagerness abounds. not sure why (moon phases?). i tried bandmix: nothing. but i'm jazz (in cincy), so a lot of it is knowing cats.... who know cats.

getting with folks at gigs has always been a useful method. may be time for you to make the rounds. good luck!

I'm on it and actually got a gig from it as well as several other offers I turned down.

I have been using it for a while now... never paid though. I put my email address and phone number on my profile so I can be contacted by non members. The phone number can be entered directly but for some reason they have a filter that won't allow a standard email address to be listed so you have to be creative.

What's frustrating is other members that do not put their contact info on their profile so they can be contacted by non paying members. Most times you can track them down if they provide enough clues.

I get inquiries from time to time and I sometimes go in there to mine some new leads. I have only been successful one time, a band contacted me and I got about a years worth of jamming out of that with a handful of gigs.

What has always worked best for me is going to open jams and meeting other players face to face.

I found my current wedding/GB band through Bandmix, and like what they offer as far as an available resume on the internet.

I've gotten several contacts/offers from local bands, as well as a touring artist. I think results depend upon how much effort you put into it. Many people have no music clips, videos or even photos. I'm not sure what they're expecting.
