I'm kind of sad to see that the following haven't been named being from Iowa. No bands are from my hometown but noteable musicians are:
Tommy Bolin (The James Gang and Deep Purple) -Sioux City
Johnnie Bolin (Black Oak Arkansas) - Sioux City
Grant Mickelson (Taylor Swift) - Sioux City

Nearby in Omaha was called 'Home' by 311 for almost 2 decades (Nebraska's only musical progeny ) Though they relocated to SoCal..

And of course Slipknot, The Nadas, Radio Moscow, The Envy Corps.

Does it count that Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens died in a plane crash here?

Columbus OH had The Cars, O.A.R. went to Ohio State, Watershed to name a few. Maynard James Keenan is from Mount Vernon OH. and Joe Walsh spent some of his childhood in Columbus. Oh and Eric Clapton owns a home here now.
