Central Illinois. I'm from Bloomington where I-74 crosses I-55 (old Rt. 66). About 40 miles east of Peoria (home of Richard Pryor) and 50 miles north of Champaign/Urbana, so we're responsible for:

REO Speedwagon (started at U of I in Chambana while they were all "majoring in draft evasion". Hated them, but they were local heroes so they seemed to be at every outdoor rock fest around here..

Head East- I only know them for "Never Been Any Reason" and that they played the same circuit as REO.

Dan Fogelberg- Local boy (Pekin is about 30 miles west of here) whose father was literally "The Leader of the Band". Dan's father was the band director at Pekin High School and one of the drummers I gigged with early on had been his student.

Stu Hamm- spent some time growing up in Cham-bana when is parents taught at U of I.

Adrian Belew had a band that started and practiced in Urbana too.

Some local people are also well known in certain circles. Awadigan Pratt is a concert pianist from here in town. Delmar Brown is a monster keyboard player who's toured with Sting among others. John Campbell was Mel Tormes' pianist for a LONG time.

And not well known, but a great guitarist and person- Tom Hemby who used to play with Amie Grant.

The death metal band Oceano(which I actually played a couple shows with cack in my metal days), most probly never heard of em tho.

The defunct band Five Pointe 0, Once again probly never heard of em but they broke up just on the cusp of being huge, I forgot why. They had a single on the original resident evil soundtrack and it had some good radio play as well then they just broke up, they're trying to come back as a band called Zillion now.

Lastly, Lionel Richie attended high school in my town, my grandma went to school with him actually, he was born in Tuskegee tho.

Now, a lil list of my fave chicagoland bands: Disturbed, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Smashing Pumpkins, and Alkaline Trio. (Oh, and fallout boy is from around here too but I dont like them so much)

Well, being from Motown, there are countless acts (Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, and all of the Motown R&B stuff.)

There's an awesome local band called Big Livy (Link Removed).

I recorded one song and have done some fill-in live work with a band called The Good Fight (Link Removed).

Jarrod,

I was about to say you forgot Taylor Hicks, but you caught yourself.

Don't forget, when you say Brother Cane, Damon Johnson currently plays with Alice Cooper and Whiskey Falls.

Another addition to Birmingham was the band "Wayne" and some of the members of "Little Big Town" went to school here and met here.

But like I said, you nailed most of them.

I live just outside of Binghamton NY, which is a musical wasteland. The only famous person from here was Rod Serling (creator of the Twilight Zone) Pretty sure he wasn't in a band though.

Ronnie James Dio Grew up like 45 minutes away in Cortland.

What about the band Duke Jupiter from Rochester, NY? I used to play some of their songs back in the 80s

Ingrid Michaelson talks about Binghamton in a song of hers. Don't think its her hometown, but I think she went to college there..

The drummer from The Raspberries and The Choir, Jim Bonfanti, grew up in Beaverdale, PA, about 15 miles from here, and then moved to Cleveland after high school.

Yeah and I think Dave Smalley is from the Johnstown area, Windber I think.

They all live in the Cleveland area now. I've played with Jim a few times, he's a great guy!

Jim Bonfanti was born in Windber, PA and grew up in Beaverdale. Jim Smalley was born and raised in Oil City, PA, which is about 100 miles from Johnstown. I live in Johnstown and I know some people who went to school with Jim Bonfanti. The Rapsberries were a great band.
