My Contra Costa County upbringing will allow me to claim:
- Primus (he name drops Richmond and San Pablo Ave in "Jerry was a Race Car Driver")
- Metallica (they seemed to get associated a lot with El Sobrante amongst my friends in middle school)
- Green Day (from Rodeo -- you can see the Chevron refinery on the cover of Dookie)
- Creedence Clearwater Revival (John Fogerty used to go down to Richmond to learn how to play real blues guitar, and I'm fairly sure he attended my high school)
- Rancid (technically they're Albany which is in Alameda county, but they were just two towns over, and I dig 'em)

3OH!3 is such a &$^%&# band. Hell, they aren't even a band. Just two guys who talk in their songs while producers and writers feed them lyrics and melodies. The dredge pit of all that is terrible in music today.

In my little hometown city, by far the biggest splash we made was 10,000 Maniacs. IIRC they were based here for a good amount of the time they were on the charts too. Natalie Merchant grew up right around the same time as my mom but they went to different schools. They made it big about 15 years before my time though. The last two original members of the band still reside here and run many of the performing arts and music programs downtown. I have alot of respect for them for staying around and doing that. I hope I may get the chance to do the same thing.:bassist:

Too bad Natalie left at the height of their popularity (don't so many woman lead singers do?)

Other famous/semi-famous people are Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys who was born here but then moved away and Jackson Rohm who moved away but is pretty famous around these parts.

There's a really low-key recording studio up the road in a little rural town where apparently The Flaming Lips have recording 2-3 albums and I believe OK Go did one up there as well. That's pretty sweet.

LOL! I worked backstage security for a couple of concerts in my college days. I was too worried about losing my job to accept the offers I received.... But I did receive a few.

Well I live 20 miles from Pittsburgh, PA. But if I count that then there is ANTI-FLAG and im sure a host of others.

But I went to the same high school, and live about 5 blocks from one of the members of the band PUNCH LINE. some of you might have heard of them. they are on Ramen records i believe and have toured with fall out boy.
