We have our own Hardcore scene here in CT, but some noteworthy bands consist of: Hatebreed, Emmure, John Mayer, Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage), Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional)

They're not HC, but The Reducers are CT's enduring punk/pub rock quintet. Same lineup for 30+ years and they rock as hard, fast and steady as they did in the 1980 and that's no lie.

I grew up in Pittsburgh area, Chris Frantz (Drummer for Talking Heads) went to my high school (a few years before me).The big local band when I was a teenager was Iron City Houserockers, who put out a few "major label" albums. I met their harmonica player at Pittsburgh Guitars back around '79...

Country star Gretchen Wilson is from Pocohontis, IL, which is just about 20 miles east of here (and maybe 5 from where I used to work)...

Hey, you stole one of mine, Lionel Richie was born in alabama(wiki says turkegee but we all know wiki isn't the most viable source) but grew up in joliet(where im from), Lol, its cool though I guess we can both claim him, he was born near you but grew up in my town.

I have heard a lot about those guys, ever heard of Flesh Hammer, those dudes have been playing since like '85, and now my good buddy is playin drums for them....

No, I moved north around then. I'll have to check 'em out.

It's cool to hear the Disruptors still have a buzz down there. They were characters, man. Steve Swan, their bass player, had a sweet Antigua P.

I'm dating myself here...oh well! :p Here are a few bands from the Chicagoland area that I'm aware of. This list doesn't include the many great blues players here and I'm sure there are bands I missed. Anyway:

CTA or as most of the world knows them Chicago
Styx
Off Broadway (still bump into Cliff Johnson once in awhile)
Ides of March (I think Vehicle was the first song I learned on bass)
Cheap Trick

I like the contrast of your chicagoland list and mine, and the fact you didnt repeat any of mine, lol, guess I have all the newer rock bands and you have the older ones covered, fitting since im young and have only been into rock since like, 2001. My picks were Oceano, Five Pointe 0, Lionel Richie(arguably since he was born in alabama but grew up in my town of Joliet ill), Disturbed, Chevelle, Mudvayne, Smashing pumpkins, Fallout boy, Alkaline Trio and I forgot Local H.
