Bands from your hometown(area)?

From the Abilene, TX area where I grew up, there's a country artist named Aaron Watson. He's not big like George Strait or Garth Brooks or anything, but he's pretty big considering he and his band manage and book shows themselves. He gets quite a bit of play on the Texas County stations. As far as the Midland/Odessa, TX area where I live now, probably the most notable artist that I can think of is Roy Orbison (Wink, TX).

THE BLACK KEYS!!! The Rubber Factory album holds a special place in my heart because I would drive past the Indian totem pole on the cover every day when I was younger. Represent Akron Ohio!!! Great city.

Marilyn Manson and Mushroom Head (UGGH) both came from Canton, OH where I currently reside, I believe.

Chiodos came from Grand Rapids where I lived shortly after I was born.

I come from Seattle... I just happen to LOVE the music this city has spawned.

I love walking down the streets and imagining, "Right now, I can't be any further than 20 miles from [x]'s house." And "[x] probably walked right down this sidewalk once, and stood in this same place, and visited this same record store that I'm browsing right now (Easy Street Records, anyone?)..."

I guess I was in a hurry yesterday, but looks like I forgot several.

Brian Vander Ark of the Verve Pipe is local.

Anthony Kiedis lived around here for a while.

Marvin Sapp.

My brothers and I all went to school with the DeBarge brothers.

Al Green lived here at one time.

Though Aerosmith credited with being from Boston, they actually met in Sunapee, NH and started the band there.

I've skied and had lunch with Steven Tyler at Mt. Sunapee, and I've also skied with Joe Perry there also. I was also playing a gig at Sunapee Harbor in the summer a couple of years ago and Steven Tyler rode by on his Custom Motorcycle, stopped for a minute, gave us the thumbs up and kept riding.

Also Aerosmith played at my uncles Senior Prom in Manchester.

So even though they say "Aerosmith is from Boston", I like to think NH really gets the credit.

I will admit that Godsmack is a MA band, formed in Lawrence, ma, but Sully, the lead singer, who formed the band is from Salem, NH. We actually have Godsmack's old sound board and monitor amps in our church!! :eek:

An electric guitar player that played with us for a while was good friends with the band and when they got singed he bought all their PA equipment that they were using in medium/large clubs. He got it all a killer price. Then he donated some of it to our church.

NH never gets much credit, because most of the time you have to go to Boston to really get any exposure.

But we can lay claim to Adam Sandler and Sarah Silverman for comedians.

most of the guys from GFR were from burton and flint area.
my dad grew up down the street from where they would practice.

mark farner did a "coming home" show at atwood stadium in flint this past summer. good show.

My drummer is from the Flint area. His old keyboard player from his band in high school toured with GFR back in the 80's or 90's.

(He has a really cool disgusting groupy story about that guy. The things the security guys don't tell the second string band guys about exactly how the girl you're making out with got backstage in the first place......:eek:)
