Bands - - - PerformanceTurn-Offs

On tuning, don't most reasonably pro players have a silent tuning option at their disposal these days? I can go to drop D in about 15 seconds before a tune starts without anyone hearing a thing, and then back to standard before the next one starts - and I ain't nothing special at all. It's just that I have a quality tuner with a mute capability. For $50, why wouldn't you just have one rather than noodle-tune in front of your audience?

Why were you barefoot in the first place?
Because you thought it was "cool"?

Seriously.... why? It was not really because if the pedals, was it.

And, it should be noted that no one, not a single person in the audience wants or needs to see a guy without shoes. No one.
There's just not an audience for a barefoot guy.

You're there to entertain, not make the audience sick.

So true lol, plus im not sure what venue here in LA would let that even go on lol. The poor bands cables after " foot guy" has smeared his foot sauce everywhere, oh man..Its actually rude lol. Thanks Geezer, I was going to go eat. Now all I can think of is some guys bulbous toes at eye level with the audience. Yummy! Im gonna stop or ill rant about barefoot guy sitting next to me on planes, while he is scratching his calluses.

I can't speak for the other guy, but I'M barefoot on stage because it feels good and I'm willing to accept the risk of injury for the trade-off of feeling super-comfortable.

I am barefoot anywhere I can get away with it because it FEELS GOOD. I've never been hurt from being barefoot but have been injured by my (physical therapist-recommended) shoes.

telling the story of how a song came to be prior to playing it
talking between songs in general
wearing docker shorts or cargo shorts
noodling between songs or before the gig once they've tuned up
practicing the intro lick or riff just before playing the song
wearing blue tooth earpieces while playing
music stands for lyrics

--bands who show up late and get annoyed at the patrons who were there on time to see them
--bands with a lot of dead air between songs
--Guitarists who have to change instruments every 2-3 songs ...and then tune
--bands who look totally bored when playing
--bands who get completely wasted while playing
(you can only call "social drink" so many times)

Unprofessional pretty much sums it up!

I have been in bands, with members as mentioned above....hated it, and has made me weary about trying again

I dunno...we're not an "original" band mind you, but we might thrown a less comonly know fact along those lines out there..."Hey, can anybody name the song Paul wrote for his Old English Sheepdog?" right before we do "Matha My Dear." Engages the audience a little (especially if anybody does know the answer!). In either case, we don't drone on about it.

I don't have "foot sauce" because my feet aren't cramped up in shoes all day long! I'll never understand why people think feet are so gross. Who cares? They're like hands on the ends of your legs...do you think it's gross when someone doesn't wear gloves too?

People compare me to that Dual Survival guy a lot, and they call me a hippie, and all sorts of other things. But I don't care, it feels good not to wear shoes, so I just don't do it. If that makes me a hippie, then I guess pass the joint and sign me up for Woodstock, because they're staying bare!!

P.S. I work with computers - I'm self-employed and do a lot of "hired gun" stuff. My clients think it's cool that I don't wear shoes and so far not one of them has said anything negative about it. I have had jobs where I was in warehouses and things like that where I had the foresight to put on some work boots - I might be that crazy barefoot hippie guy but I'm not stupid. Also, my hair is a pretty average length and I shave. So whatever.

i have to admit, ive read through this thread to see if i, or any other guys in the band can improve on anything.
i have just recently started playing the first few notes of the next song...so thats one for me to kick into touch.
one for our singer is to lose the music stand he has his lyric sheets on...i cant start to tell you how naff i think it looks.
