Out of curiosity I searched to see if anyone on here had ever mentioned Death In June, and it turns out someone had once in a song association game thread. That legitimately surprised me. The average age here does kind of mean that there are vast swathes of music that have never been mentioned...

This thread’s already exposed me to tons of stuff I’ve never heard of — some pretty good.

I think it may be more a "peer-guided focus of aspiration" rather than age.

I imagine there aren't any mentions of Slovenian Polka either, but it's heritage is measured in centuries, it went from The Domain of Peasants to The Courts of Kings and then back again. I'd happily sign-on to play this stuff just because it sounds and looks like fun:

Ten Hands is a fantastic band out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area... the low end is held down by Gary Muller who plays Chapman Stick. Their stuff is kinda Zappa-ish but not as out there... funky, rockin', jazzy... with fun, smart lyrics.

I got into them back in the early 90s when they regularly toured. They've got a handful of releases... some studio, some live... all killer.

They disbanded for a while but they've been playing live shows in the Dallas area lately.

Check 'em out... Jazz For Jerks and Be My Guru are two great studio albums... The Big One Is Coming is a cool live release.

Love The Weeks
Their bass player is excellent.

The Weeks is just a feel good band with a great bassist and singer/songwriter. They released a song called “Slips” that has a Jameson-esque bass line (especially around the 3:30 mark). “Gold Don’t Rust” is a great one, as well. They live here in Nashville so I’ve gotten to see them a few times. They always put on a great live performance, and you can tell they live for music.



Love that Scottish singers voice in Camera Obscura. I’m assuming she has a Scottish accent, but you can only hear hints of it when sung. Really cool. I’ll have to check more of their stuff out. Unfortunately, I can’t hear the bass on my phone.

Did kottonmouth kings actually play instruments?

I just remember them as being a kinda one dimensional rap group.

Edit: Wikipedia doesn’t list any bassists as past or current members.

Not sure why anyone would mention them on, you know, a bass guitar forum. Unless I’m really missing something here.

Yeah. They have a drummer, and a guitarist. They also have a guy dressed like a mummy in a trench coat, doing the robot, drinking a 40, puffing on a blunt, and holding signs...the entire show.

They’re mentioned often in conjunction with Billy Cobham’s “Stratus”, Lee Sklar’s bass riff, and their sampling of it on “Safe From Harm”

I actually asked Sklar about how he felt regarding that sample. His response indicated that he was not pleased with Massive Attack.
