It's about time you showed up Dwayne ... ;)

Your old B1 (#76) is regularly abused at various places along the Jersey Shore area. As my ratio of jazz to rock dates gradually reverts back to the jazz side of things, the BVB is getting more and more gig time .... it's a very good bass :D

Here she is from last weekend ...... (just ignore the old grey haired guy)

Great photo -- even with the white haired guy.

I wish I had more swing jazz gigs. My Barker usually leaves the practice room for wedding receptions where it is one of a few basses that get played, depending on the song. I would REALLY like to just ease into this one bass though for a good night of standards.

Shhh, I'm trying to convince my wife that I'm actually a platinum blonde ;). (Yeah, she's not buying it, either)

For reasons I don't really understand, the jazz work around here has picked up a lot over the past year. I'm doing at least 6 dates a month, most of them duo & trio gigs with some occasional 4/5 piece stuff. Very low key, no pressure, super fun jobs :D

76 has a new home, Camp Interceptor.

Here she is, with my other barker, Fritz the Schnauzer:

It'll get used heavily here in a three piece jazz combo (trumpet, guitar and bass) and in a acoustic rock / country outfit. I'll be running it through a Thunderfunk and an Epifani T-112.

My initial impressions can best be summed up as this is a true destination bass. Great playability, tone and stunning looks. Wow.

Welcome to our small but "cult-like" group of BVB lovers, Jim :D

I'm thrilled that #76 ended up in appreciative hands. That is one heck of a great bass, and pushing it through a T-Funk and T-112 has the potential maim old ladies and small children, so please be careful .... :eek: :help:

Wait til you hear the response from the low B in a live setting ..... :cool:

You guys warm the cockles of my heart with your enthusiastic adjectives. I've had my cockles checked lately, and the levels were good by the way. I don't want any inaccurate rumors ululating out through the ether.

"Vertical Tone Monster": May I purchase that for future use? With my inherent shyness and gosh-all-fishooks country bumpkinitis, I'd never have thought of it.

I removed the map pin from NJ and put it in Madison. That felt good; (a) it's my home state, and (b) we've not got a lot of pins in America's Heartland (3 in America's Dairyland though).

I took the B1 to practice today for the first time, I needed some woodshed time before I was confident enough with my intonation.

The bass was a big hit with the rest of the band. The woodshed time payed off, too.

When I asked which bass I should use at the next gigs, there wasn't any hesitation from the bandleader; the B1! It starts gigging here on Thursday.

#76 played its first gig in the Madison area last night.

Outdoors, me as the thickening agent for a singer songwriter duo. Loudest gig of the year for this group, volume was as loud as vocals would go through a Mackie PA.

I used a Thunderfunk 420 into an Epifani T-112. EQ was flat, enhance at 9:00 and one click to the left on the timber knob. Bass was run all controls wide open.

Tone was great for this application, very full and rich, big bottom yet pitch well defined and loads of punch. Upper mids were a little soft on stage, I'll have to fool around with eq on the Thunderfunk, or roll back on the neck pickup a bit. One of my buddies in the audience was the soundman for a national rock act, and he loved my tone.

I was surprised by how much attention I got after we wrapped things up. It was a fun night.

Totally fun! I love the comments, "what is that tall bass you are playing", and of course the "sounds so good" comments. But even more is that the thing is FUN to play, and that (for me) makes be play even better. It's just good all around!

It sure is fun!

Played another gig on Saturday. We ended up playing "full war volume" due to high ambient noise of a festival situation. Post gig, the guitarist commented on how much he enjoyed feeling the bass. We've been gigging five years together, and that's the first time he hooked up with the FEEL of a bass.

The heft I had was something to behold.

Gave three more tours yesterday. It is an honor. I've got the feeling this bass is going to get me more work. Cool.

That's the hardest part to describe to someone who has never played a BVB live .... the presence of the bass is just amazing. To me, that's what makes it much more than simply a "vertical bass guitar".

The largest show I've played it in was the MusikFest in Bethlehem PA. The audience was well over 5,000 people and the sound guy (provided by the festival) was completely knocked out by the bass .... told me it was the "biggest" bass tone he had ever heard :D

BTW, I just realized that, in a way, I'm temporarily out of the Barker club until the new bass is done .... :atoz:
