bass amp advice - Ampeg SVT450 ??

Hi all,
I joined this band a couple of months ago. We were rehearsing in the guitarist's house, but the neighbors complained about the noise so they kicked us out. Well, today we've got a real rehearsal room and I'm using only a Sansamp bass driver... so it's time to get a bass amp.
I have checked the local stores and I got a good deal with an Ampeg SVT450H and Ampeg SVT210HE cab.

I know close to nothing about bass amps. Could you give some advices about this Ampeg amp? thanks in advance.

The band doesn't play so loud, and the bars where we play are kinda small.
Will be enough 250W into 2x10" 8ohms cab?

it should be enough but look into hartke they are better and cheaper and have a better warranty. and no other owner of a company will post his personal cell phone number on talk bass...

should be fine. all depends on what your version of not so loud is.

You could always add another cab later on if you need more volume for larger venues. 450 watts at 4-ohms and (2) 2x10 cabs would be plenty. If you need any more than that and you may as well run through the PA system.

The 450svt sounds the same as an Ampeg B2RE which also sounds like an Ampeg BA115 Combo(Great Amp-even for small gigs)

You get a great sound and easy to dial in. Good vintage look too.

If I only had one cabinet, it would be a 1x15 not a 2x10.

Adding another 210 would definitely be a good upgrade for your setup.

That's a pretty good setup to get started with. If your band isn't too loud, it should work well. From my own experience the SVT-450 isnt as powerful as its power rating would suggest. The 210 cab can handle a good amount of volume and can be considered loud in a small bar/small jamspace context, but I wouldn't recommend going into extreme volumes with it, at least not if its used as a standalone. I own that cab too and so far I've used it as a standalone, but I usually play smaller places, so I haven't had any issues with output unless the place sounds bad to begin with or if I'm playing with a drummer that's real loud or has a really loud drumkit.

You should be good with that setup, but if you ever need more power, I'd start by switching out the head before adding a second cab. You can get used, older GK heads like the 400RB or 800RB for good prices and, even though the listed power rating may not be as high as the SVT-450, I can tell you from firsthand experience that they will outperform the SVT-450 and not overload the cab since it handles 200 watts.
