First off i know these kind of threads are hard to give advice, but im collecting some info and tbers have never let me down yet. Due to having a bad year and pretty much selling off all of my gear, money is tight. I recently did some work for someone in exchange for some bass gear. By recommendation from REVVV who told me not to be a gear snob and try out the Hartke VX8x10. I did and well im a happy bass guy. I love this cab! Love it!!! Problem is i need a new head, my swr 8004 is getting a little testy lately and well i would like a "different sound". I was paid this slightly used cab and $500 cash. With the wifes blessing she told me to go ahead and spend it on a new(old/used) head.
I need some advice.....
What is a good head at this price range that i could buy used or new that would give me a good sound. Im looking for something that gives a warm fat low tone that is clean. I use a pick when i play/ use pbasses/ our bands style is like a nirvana meets black keys with a sprinkle of the pixies. Im just getting tired of the growly old school punk sound and want something new. I know this sounds like a tube amp but tubes are way too expensive and sansamps have been dissapointments. Im throwing the watts factor out the window this time, as ive learned over the years that 300 watts of one name brand power dosent even come close to 150 watts of another brand name power. Ill have my pen and paper ready and please dont skimp on the discriptions. Thanks
