Bass Cab dust cap rattle

I have an ashdown CL-810 cab, I noticed a little rattle coming from the cab, and I can’t stand any noise that shouldn’t be there, so I had my buddy play the note that the rattle was most prominent, while I listened around and realized when I touched the dust cap of one of the speakers the rattle went away, I can see a slight separation in the glue joint where the dust cap meets the cone. Is there any fix for this? Can you glue it back?

Yes, with the proper rubberized PVA glue. It’s tougher than it looks to make it turn out clean and not a slobber job. An experienced recone tech can do this easily and inexpensively while having it turn out clean.

If you plan to use the cabinet for outdoor shows you need to use yellow PVA glue.

White PVA glue is for interior gigs only.

Neither of these are appropriate for speaker repairs. There are specific rubberized PVA glues used for speaker building and repair.

Sorry for making a joke about yellow and white PVA for interior, and exterior use, (like for carpentry) without saying that there is PVA formulated for speaker repair. It is a good thing that agedhorse stepped in and clarified this. I bought some from Parts Express.

That’s not what manufacturers use.

I had one doing that. I ran a bead of wood glue around the dust cap and it stopped rattling.

Most wood glues are not flexible enough and will eventually fail. As a hack repair, maybe it will work ok for a while, maybe not.

No, that’s not rubberized PVA glue. It’s used for dust caps that do not have a flange, a special case, and type of dust cap.

I’m about 99% sure your dust caps have flanges.

It’s made for paper and pressed felt dust caps with a lip.
