Bass Cab with very low response - 20hz

Hi guys,

I need to buy a cabinet which is able to reproduce and enhance the low F# of my 9 string bass.
I normally use a Mesa Boogie M-Pulse 600 head and in the past I was surprised how it could work great with an Ampeg SVT 1x18.
Sincerely I'm looking for the same cab (unfortunately only used models are available) but maybe some of you can suggest me a good (and "modern") alternative.

What's wrong with a used cab? If that's the sound you're after... I'm all about used gear in good condition. Let someone else take the hit on the depreciation.

Now a bunch of folks will post that no cab will reproduce 20 hz, humans can't hear 20 hz anyway, and that you really don't want frequencies that low on stage, that's what the PA subs are for.

The range that humans can hear is 15 to 20,000 hz but most people are between 20 and 18,000 hz. I think if you use a cabinet that can go down as low as 20hz that the only thing you will achieve is a muddy sound.

You don't need to go down to 20hz, for that low f#. If you have a cabinet that can deliver lots of power down to 35-40hz then you will be happy.

There aren't (m)any other 18" drivers that can match it's performance in a relative small cabinet, it'll kick the Ampeg 1x18 off the stage.

Build cabinet of approx 120liters, tune it to 38hz, buy a hefty power amp and it'll tear your house down.
Use a separate cab for the mid 'n highs cuz this 18" driver should only be used up to 400hz.

Since you live in Europe you should be able to buy this driver.

No matter about used cab, my previous SVT 1x18 was used but they don't produce that cab from a long time and here it's very difficult to find it in good condition..so I'm collecting different opinions and experiences..

I can guarantee I can hear that F# and not for a particular ability of my hear but in reason of a great piezo which enhances that low frequencies.. Sincerely you can not exactly distinguish the lower notes if you play fast on them but you add a great power to the songs (especially you your guitarists play 8 string guitars).

Yep. If you're looking to reproduce the fundamental, you're a bit off-target. I would focus on an enclosure that better supports the harmonics which provides the body and definition required. The closest (best?) thing I have in my fleet is a ported Acme and I use 18" subs for FOH...but I think the rating is 40 hz!

Not sure how they can say the frequency range is 25 hz to 4000 hz. Their chart shows that 40 hz is -15 DB and 25 hz is -20 DB. They give a recommended cabinet volume but they don't say what that chart is made from. Maybe someone can plug the S/T numbers into a calculator to give more specifics.
