Pure marketing. A 1/4" is a 1/4" is a 1/4".
That said, I reccomend Planet Wave cables. Just cause they're freaking awesome.

eh, not entirely sure. monster claims that their cord specifically for bass sounds better... for low frequencies.
just for insight, if you're planning on getting new cables, go with mogami or monster, it's great to have the lifetime warranty, spend 50$ for a cable that will last the rest of your life assuming the company doesn't die.

Pure marketing crap. I've played for just under 20 years, through countless different cables, and never heard a BIT of difference.

Iv'e just started using Planet Waves and can't believe the difference in the sound.But in saying that my old cables were old and crappy.
Well, its all subjective really...
You may think a cable sounds better but your head may just tell you that because its trying to justify the cash you just blew on a monster..(I am taking a psychology class right now and that my friends is called the PLacebo Effect)
I have two monster cables. I regret buying them, very expensive with a great lifetime warranty. No sound difference from a cheap Rapco cable, and it already broke on me. Although the warranty is no questions asked free replacement, it would be nice if it just didnt break in the first place...I wish I had the money to get rid of these things and get some bayous or something else worth the money, because no matter what you read THE JACKS ARE BIGGER ON THESE THINGS!!! the only thing these cables did for my sound was take some of the annoying pops and clicks out, for the most part...because some are still there.
BTW digiflex cables which are made in Canada are crap to me as well. My friend bought me one, and it came broken new. So ya, maybe the bad apple in the bunch, but still doesn't make sense considering it costs 40 bucks!

All I am saying is Sat.When I picked up my TF750 from Dave Funk at Vics home Vic played his basses threw his new TFB750 and a Series 2 Epifani UL 410 with various basses.Nothing was changed on each bass and 3 different cords where used.One I don't remember what it was ,one was a Fodera cord and the other was the one Dave brought along which was a van den Hul.They all sounded different but the van den Hul was way clearer,tighter sounding and punchier over the others and they all high end cords.there was some difference in the lengths.there are difference in cords the same as there is difference in wireless,amps and speakers!
No one has ever come forward being able to ascertain differences in DB studies. Period.
Until a cable is made that can win in DB tests, I'll continue to call shenanigans and laugh at those that get their panties in a bunch when others slander Monster or other snake oil salesmen.

Expensive as they may be, Monster does make some darn good cables. Not a bad buy, just a slightly overpriced one (not by tons, to be honest, but Monster isn't known for a competitive price point).

By the Wirlwind Leader Cable priced is fair and they last. They have a lifetime warranty also! Great Cables, I am still using one I purchased about 15 years ago.

The only real difference between cable brands that would make one better than the other comes down to three things:
1) Quality of connectors, cabling and workmanship.
2) Shielding.
3) Warranty.
Back when I was on a budget, I bought some cables from Rondo Music which were 20ft each. A 5 pack ran me $40. Sounds like a deal right? Well, the issues I had with these cables was that quite frankly, they were cheaply made. The connections were not solid at all, and the plug ends jiggled. In the end, I decided that risking gigging with such garbage cables is not something I wanted to do (even with backups) so I relegated them to being made into cheap contact mics for my noise band and replaced the actual cables that I was using to play bass with some Planet Waves. World of difference. The connections actually feel solid, and there's a little less noise coming through.
In my opinion though, if you buy a quality made, shielded cable, paying extra for any audiophile voodoo is dumb. Monster may make quality cables construction-wise but any speak of "more natural bass response" and "articulation" is a bunch of hogwash.
