Bass Case Smells Like Milk !?

For real stubborn odors sprinkle
a good helping of baking soda,
let it sit overnight,vacume out,
repeat and put out in sun all afternoon..

hope this helps :)

Hmm , Ive just thought, I recieved my bass back after a setup with a very small crack in the case, could that have played a part ?

Maybe whoever setup your bass took it to a gig while in their possession and something was spilled in the case and also cracked the case while lugging it to/from the gig.

I'm just sayin'....

If you still can't get the stink out, a possibility is to take it to a carpet cleaner that can steam clean it. Then dry it outside with a high powered fan on it

hang an air freshener inside??:hiding: J/K! The Febreeze or coffee beans sound like a great idea! Febreeze took the nasty smell out of my van when milk got spilled in there-and no matter how fast you soak it up, it will stink when the sun and heat and a closed up van mix!! And this was really milk spilled too!

Years ago i had a Kramer bass that came with a hardshell case....at first i didn't notice any smell, but after an outdoor show where my case sat in the Texas sun for a short while i began to notice an odd but not unpleasant smell kind of like a cross between vanilla and fresh whole milk. Turns out it was the combination of my bass polish seeping into the fibers mixed with the adhesive used in the build of the case after being heated up...it eventually gassed off after a while

I used to have a trumpet case that smelled really bad. There have been pretty good suggestions in this thread about how to get rid of smell, here's another one: pour out some vanilla essence into a small bowl, place the bowl in your case, close the case and leave it for a week. The smell in the trumpet case never came back, the vanilla essence absorbs the smell somehow.

get an Ionic Breeze.. put it and the case in a closet for a few days on the high setting..

the ionic breeze produces ozone (O3) and will break down the smell in a few days.. i actually have a couple pocket Ionic Breezes that run on batteries that i leave in the case if it get foul.. i do the same with my rack to clear out the smoke smell..

i'm sure that you could find a Ionic Breeze for cheap on ebay..

ozone generators are what higher end auto detailers use to get the smells out of cars.. including rotten spilled milk..

Hey guys ,

So I Just wapped the old Stingray out for a practise today and couldnt help notice that the inside of my case smells like ............ MILK !?!?!?!?!

:eyebrow::confused:

Nothing has been spilled or sprayed on the bass or case ? Certainly no milk ? What could this be ? and whats the best way of getting rid of it ?
Thanks

My 2x 10 cabinet has been at the drummer's house for 7 months. He has a room converted as a studio that his wife regards as part of the house, and places those nasty air-fresheners in there. I brought the cab home last week..and now I smell the so-called freshener whenever I use it.

Try some pet urine/odor neutralizing spray and let it air dry. I have some all-natural stuff at home that we use for our puppy that doesn't seem to have much fragrance. It may take a couple doses but it should end up smelling better than sour milk. IMO, I think Febreeze is just one stinky odor used to cover another.

i used to love how fender cases smelled in the 90's--- kind of a cross between oreos and suntan oil. mmmm

i also got a cheap MF case a few years back, and it smelled like someone poured a pint of acetone into it. yuk! i put it outside, open and standing up. for like a week. until the case started warping. what a POS that was.
